'04 Smokin' Asphalt

I was cruising around a local gathering of classic cars with my father when I was about 7 yrs old. We're passed by what, as best I can remember, was a old '30s roadster (he called it a 'ZZ-Topper,' but I was 7, didn't know what that meant). Anyways, the only thing I remember about the car was that it had purple taillights, and I thought that was the coolest thing ever.

Jump ahead about 10 years, and I had just finished painting my first car (Plum Crazy over Raven Black) and I think how cool it would be if I could get those purple taillights. I'm sure they were 100% illeagle, but nothing on my car was legal.

I found the blue dots in my Summit catalog, someone told me thats what was used, so I ordered them for $10, and drilled them into my lights. Only thing I got was a dark circle in the middle of the red taillights.

So my question, if one of you would be so kind (as I am still looking for this option), are the blue dots supposed to make them purple? Or are they just as the name states...blue dots in a red taillight? Were these I saw on the ZZTopper just custom colored lenses?

Anyone done anything like this, or know how it was done? I appreciate the time, and I'll continue my life story when I'm not so tired.
