Were they sure that the rubber drain on the firewall wasn't plugged with debris causing it to back up. Have seen this in the past on other vehicles. It may be difficult to find or even get to, but it's worth a peek with a flash light.
Wish I could remember wether it was on the front of the fire wall or on the side if it. Been a while since I had mine that far apart.
