Hello Hotrod girl: I grew up in the copper country,Laurium,MI. I would'nt trade for anything,
the healthy clean air of lake superior and the delicious pasties that no one ,unless
from midwest,ever heard of, pasties?!

I almost won the soap box derby(sponsored by chevrolet then) in Hancock,MI. this was in 1956,My mother saved
my helmet, blue in color, made of compressed cardboard, anyway my good friend
Dennis Oja and myself were headed for the finish line, I thought, like in track and field, the moment you hit the finish line you won

My buddy waved as he went by me

. You see the old "Finish" carpenter that built my car designed
a brake system that not only was simpler,it worked even better! When I hit the
drag brake, which instead of the two piece hinged brake,he glued two 2x4's and
cut them to fit the opening it was one piece that actuated from a shaft that he
drilled thru the 2x4's. in other words it was a swing brake and it was twice as fast
as the conventional design. I won best brakes and best steering out of 120 cars!
My good friend Dennis Oja went to Akron,Ohio for the big show. We were given the
cars.I almost want to cry telling you story, because I remember how wonderful, chevrolet and General Motors were back then from the mind and heart of a twelve year old boy.
Have fun back there and be safe!
