Condition
Some customers may comment that the windshield washer is inoperative even though solvent remains in the reservoir.

Cause
The cause of this condition may be due to the screened portion of the washer pump grommet becoming restricted. This restriction allows air to be trapped in the pump and then the pump loses its prime.

Correction
Remove the washer pump and grommet from the reservoir, cut the tip (lower screen portion) off of the grommet and reinstall the grommet and washer pump. Refill the reservoir and check windshield washer operation.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:
The windshield washer pump is inoperative, when the washer solvent is at 1/3 of a tank or less.

Recommendation/Instructions:
On vehicles built prior to VIN break 5B116842 perform the following.

Remove the washer pump from the washer solvent container.
Remove the washer pump grommet from the washer solvent container.
Cut the tip of the grommet off that goes into the washer solvent container.
Reinstall the grommet into the washer solvent container.
Reinstall the washer pump into the washer solvent container.
Fill the washer fluid container up and check for any leaks.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
