Good Plan
Sounds like a winner to me, Keith.
GE (GoogleEarth) has you blasting through Barstow in 3 1/2 hours with a half an hour for breaks, this puts you into Barstow @ 11:30am.
I can get to Barstow in 2 1/2 hours and meet up with a "gathering" of California trucks.
Looking at those that have evidenced an interest in the Springfield Super Rally I come up with 8 California trucks. However, I see their trip to Missouri coming out this way:
Lloger - leaving earlier to setup event
kwhopper89
WearyEagle - won't know until a week before if I can attend
BlueThunder
Artsmart - cancelled
Vix0454 - leaving earlier (Thursday)
DMW
autodan - leaving later, maybe catching up with us at Winslow
May even gather LadyinRed from Nevada at Needles or Kingman ?
I also like the breakdown of accomodations along the way. The Desert Sun Motel sounds great. Always wondered why the Eagles picked this city for "Take it Easy".
Just read a "not-so-nice" review about this motel. Seems they may be in the process of refurbishing it. Did a Sidestep.com search on motels in Winslow:
Days Inn . . . . . . . . . . . $80 **
Holiday Inn . . . . . . . . . $95 ***
Econolodge . . . . . . . . . $55 **
Super 8 . . . . . . . . . . . . $54 **
Winslow Days Inn . . . . $68 **
And Amarillo is a great choice, Keith. Read all I could about the Big Texan Motel. Although I won't be competing in the 72 oz. contest, I'd love to watch someone try ! !
I think this schedule also allows for any AZ members that want to have an easy first day (201 miles 3:03 hours) and meet up with us in Winslow, to join in.
May even get some Texans from the panhandle to join in Amarillo. Wouldn't that be the $hit$ and giggles ! ! Since you asked for suggestions, I would suggest posting this on the Southwest Forum so Arizonans could see this and also on the Texas Forum so Texans going through Amarillo could see this.
I am concerned that we should hear from the other members who qualify for this run, BlueThunder and DMW and get the ball rolling with reservations at these places if we're to travel together. Autodan may be able to arrange an earlier start time and we delay an hour or so at Barstow, so as to include him and Phyllis in the caravan. I prefer to travel with other SSRs.
