The one-off cost was going to be north of $9,000!!!!

A typical custom big brake kit will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $3000 per axle. This is a complete kit, 16" drilled/slotted rotors front, probably 13" rotors rear, powercoated 6-piston calipers all around, powdercoated rotor hats, synthetic brake pads, stainless steel brake lines, parking brake components, everything you need to replace the stock brake setup. I'm not saying that is what this kit will cost, but just to give you some idea.
