Hi. Long time Halifax/Dartmouth resident.. all family still living in the area.
As mentioned earlier Citadel hill would be great for pictures.
Walk the waterfront area, and from there there are some whale watching trips if they are in the area.
Peggy's Cove is the standard post card and tourist spot... but try driving in that direction but hit Mahone Bay, Chester, etc.
There are two bridges across the harbor. The Angus L MacDonald and the McKay. You can walk the Angus and will go over top some of the ships mentioned by turnheadz
