Maggie Valley Rally 2008 - In-house Competition:
Everyone:
At Gina’s request, the “masked man” will identify himself. It’s me! Gina PM’d me stating that she is getting asked several questions about the proposed in-house car show competition, so she thought it best if I field them and handle them from this point on.
I wanted to remain anonymous at first because I want to help contribute to the success of the Maggie Valley Rally 2008, in my own small way, but did not want or need to receive any credit. Not that Gina and Danny need any help in succeeding, because as many of us know, they are TRULY the BEST of hosts. I just thought that this in-house car show competition would be interesting, fun, and another item to spice up the weekend. Plus, with most of us at the GM Truck Show anyway, it seemed like a natural addition.
We have plenty of time to prepare for this, but I will outline my thoughts on the competition to this point.
I have 6 categories of competition in mind. (There will also be a “Long Distance” award, which I understand that fanatic "Bagger" has graciously offered to provide.)
1. Best of Show (the top honor)
2. Best Custom Paint (stripes, graphics, etc., but no flames)
3. Best Flames
4. Best Interior
5. Best Engine Bay
6. Best Stock Wax Job (no custom paint scheme and no flames)
Since the majority of fanatics do not heavily customize their SSRs, I want to create at least one category that almost anyone with a basically stock SSR could compete it in. That is why I would like to add category 6. I can assure you that the trophies that will be presented will be VERY nice, certainly worthy of the competition, so if you gals and guys don’t mind, I would like to keep the categories meaningful. Thus, I’m excluding the “Dirtiest” or “Most Bugs” as potential categories…..sorry. However, I’m open to other meaningful categories that can be voted on, if anyone has any other ideas.
On the voting, I’m leaning strongly toward a points system. Each fanatic would vote for his/her top 3 in each of the 6 categories, with 3 points awarded for first, 2 points for second, and 1 point for third. The one with the most points in each specific category wins.
To help assure that awards get spread around, I would like to set this competition up so that no one SSR wins more than one trophy in the 6 categories listed above. For example, if the "Best of Show" winner also has the most votes for any of the other 5 categories, he/she would win only "Best of Show", the top award, and the second highest in votes in the other category would get that category trophy. I also am going to request and expect that everyone will be on the “honor system” of NOT voting for themselves in any category. The “Long Distance” award will obviously speak for itself.
I will have the ballots printed up and will set up a MS-Excel spreadsheet to facilitate the tabulation of votes. I will recruit a couple of fanatics there at Maggie Valley to help me with the vote counting and tabulation process.
Gina and I will work out a “Plan B” for getting together and voting, in case the weather is bad at the GM Truck Show. (Let’s keep our fingers crossed for no rain!)
Gina will present the trophies at the banquet on Saturday night.
I welcome your feedback and comments.
