If you decide to visit Vancouver Island, you should give yourself a few days to tour. A trip to the West Coast is a given. Victoria is very close to the Olympic Penninsula, just a short ferry trip gets you to Port Angeles.
It is about a 4 to 4 1/2 hour drive from Penticton to the ferry terminal, and the ferry is another hour or two. The Black Ball Ferry to Port Angeles is about 45 minutes, but it can be a long wait to get on during the summer.
