I believe the smell is oil that is on the exhaust and muffler from the factory,not on the clamps so welding wouldn't help. It should go away after heat cycles or run time on the engine. Same thing happens when installing new Headers........THE FUNK HITS THE FAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
