Nevermind.

More checking with the meter showed the power rail seems to be on the driver's side for those relays. According to the schematic on the relays and the pin layout, it looks like the relays should work regardless of their orientation, which would explain why they allow for both.

My relay is probably going bad, which is the only way I can explain my symptoms. I'll just go get a few spares and that should fix my problems.
