Bottom line, after the MTI tune, I was able to gain 20HP at the wheels, for a disappointing 261HP and +8 PF of Torque, at the wheels, ABOVE the Hypercharger program. They tell me 261 rear wheel HP converts to ~310HP at the motor. Also I should state that I have a Magnaflow Cat back Performance exhaust on for all of the runs.

So... Did GM lie to us about 300HP out of the box?
.
First, all vehciles, automatic or manual transmission models, lose a great deal od power between the engine crankshaft and the rear wheels. Some goes to driving accessories (e.g. alternator), and some gets lost as friction. Manual transmission vehicles typically lose 12 to 15%, and automatic transmission vehicles typically lose 22 to 22%, and soemtimes even more.

The typical rear wheel output on a 2004 SSR (which are ALL automatics) is 230 to 245 rear wheel horsepower (rwhp), when properly corrected to standard temperature, pressure, and humidity conditions (which almost all dynomometers automatically do correct to).

261 rwhp out of an SSR that has only a dyno tune and no other mods is excellent.

That Magnaflow ctaback system, like virtually all pre-configured catback systems, sounds louder than stock but actually adds very little power, and sometimes redcues power. Sorry, I know you don't want to hear that, but I have no reason to lie to you about it - unlike the guy who sold it to you or unlike Magnaflow which preys upon people's desire for "more power".

REAL power increases are costly. The proven average for adding aftermarket horsepower is $60 to $100 per horsepower added, depending u[pon a number of factors.

There a several ways that you can get much better ACCELERATION without necessarily adding more POWER. I have listed many of them on previous posts on this website over the past 3 years. If you would like a moreconvenient one-stop listing, buy my e-book "The SSR Experience" which is advertised in the "Parts for Sale" forum on this website.

By the way, when I sold my SSR which was the "model" for the e-book, it made close to 600 crank horsepower and about 420 rwhp, so I'm not just shooting you a line like too many unscrupulous vendors of hot rod parts do.
