It takes different amounts of energy to extract Ethanol from different products...Each type of garbage would probably need it's own process to obtain Ethanol....making it to costly. I have read about someone who has spent decades developing a "plasma-gasification" machine, where you can dump anything from bricks to batteries to live ammunition and it will create energy.
