"A tanker hauling a chemical with the potential of delivering a deadly triple blow to the Crab Orchard area community overturned in a chain-reaction crash on rain-slickened I-40 Saturday, causing the evacuation of 164 homes and businesses and creating a traffic nightmare for thousands of motorists and law enforcement alike. I-40 and U.S. 70 in Cumberland County were closed for over 31 hours."

"Some 20 federal, state and local agencies were involved in the off-loading and cleanup. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was dispatched to the site and set up air quality monitoring throughout the area and found no trace of deadly chemical being released into the atmosphere. In addition to the Crossville/Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency's response, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency also had personnel at the scene. A Roane County EMA personnel were also present to offer assistance and support."
