sounds like the ignition switch would be a good place to start only because they are so trouble prone and worthy of update regardless. You could find a shop in your area that has the proper diagnostic tools to plug a stand alone computer into the trans to be certain the internals are functioning as they are supposed to and allowing all 4 forward gears and converter clutch activation. If the trans has all functions with the the stand alone sytem you will have ruled out the trans and can then concentrate on control function such as computer, voltage sources and wiring.
