Dave,
The ignition switch actually has no direct connection to the tranny. What it has, is the ability to corrupt the digital signals that run around on the bus between all the computers and "nodes" in your truck. It is like interrupting the digital signal, just enough to cause dropped bits and processor mis-information. This has historically manifested itself (at one time or another) as a symptom in one member's truck or another. The top, windows, rear deck lid, power locks, cruise control, lighting systems, radio, A/C, transmission, and a crap load of others...... the most obvious has been the instrument cluster.... You have no idea where the gremlins will attack.
Go get a can of Raid and kill the bugs that run out of your system when you replace the ignition switch.

OK boys.... Can I have an AMEN????
