A bit over 3 weeks until the Keys Run and I thought I would start posting some stuff ya'll may like to know and do while visiting the Keys...
We'll start with Mile Markers (mm) and conch fritters.
Mile Markers are posted on little green signs all through the Keys on US#1 (or Overseas Hwy as it's called). They are used as addresses in the Keys.. US#1 starts at mm 0 in Key West and ends at mm 110 in Key Largo. Not too many places even yankees can get lost down there.
Conch fritters are a traditional food in the Caribbean. They are prepared by beating the crap outta some sea snails called conch, mixed into a batter with spices and veggies, and fried to golden perfection. Conch fritters and a cup of conch chowder is hard to beat, but not all conch fritters are created equal. Please make sure to stop at Alabama Jack's on your way in or out of the Keys. Instead of heading straight down US#1 out of Florida City you will follow Card Sound road south. Right before the toll and the big bridge is Alabama Jack's. Card Sound road will take you onto US#1 in Key Largo, so after you eat, just pay the toll and carry on south over the bridge.
Alabama Jack's - Welcome
