04 UV Indy 500 Pace Truck FS
UPDATE - Seller is likely a poser trying to sell a normal UV 04 as a pace truck so beware. Thanks for everyone helping with info below, I forgot about the strobes on the tailgate but the lack of ghost flames and low price really threw me off. The decals look excellent though, nice work.
Someone might like to know about this one ........... I don't see these come up too often. One of 3 as far as I can tell!!!!!!! Santa missed my house for delivery of this beauty.

I thought that they all had flames, I knew the experts would get involved and get it all cleared up.
I don't ever remember seeing flashers on them but I am probably wrong.
Waiting for the experts to clear this up for everyone
The listing is likely a poser as I found this info, they all had flames according to these statements below.
From the Pace car registry page:
2003 - Ultra Violet, Violet was the color chosen for the 2003 Indianapolis 500 Official Pace Vehicle.
Only 25 were built and only the "Signature Series" was available - a very limited edition of 25 which were numbered by Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) # 0001 - 00025. These 25 unique "Signature Series" saleable units were built before regular retail production and shipment to Chevrolet dealers. The "Signature Series" vehicles were used to create one-of-a-kind "pedigrees" for each vehicle before they were offered for sale through public or GM dealer auctions during 2003.
There were five units built to be used as "Official" Pace Vehicles which were done in Ultra Violet Violet with Silver Ghost flames paint which starts from the front of the vehicle and flows back to the tonneau cover. The color choice was limited to three colors for 2003 (Redline Red, Slingshot Yellow, and Smokin Asphalt).

I can't get the phone number to work but have emailed as well.
There were only 3 - #26 is at IMS, the EX VIN at GM Heritage and Signature 4 is Narcoose who very recently posted so someone has slapped some decals on a 2004 . All 3 did have ghost flames.
What I don't understand is how he got decals. Pretty small market for someone to custom design those so precisely.

I haven't come across any info that would confirm 5 units.
Only aware of the EXP truck, Signature 4, and Serial #026 having the ghost flames, strobes and decals. They were also the only three to get polished aluminum wheels.

I talked to the guy and he said it was a "clone" to the degree that he put the decals on it only. Nothing else makes it similar to the real thing, other than it is a . He did not consider my call as a "serious inquiries only" so he made our call rather brief. I was unable to get any VIN detail, nor was it clear how he obtained the decals.

There were 5 SSR's that were involved at the beginning of the race. There were 4 that led the field on the formup lap ahead of the official pace truck. They broke off the track before the race beginning leaving the pace truck alone with the field.
The lead 2 Signatures did not have the ghost flames. Thus far I have been unable to determine which Signatures made up the balance of the group. Only 3 were set up with the strobe lights and race decals.

I was more concerned that some might think there were 5 "official" pace vehicles, just like some still think Gibson built 25 guitars..
23 of the 25 Signatures were at the track for the Indy race, serving various functions. You can see the whole group parked at one corner of the track during the race. Many of them paraded the high faluting dignitaries during pre-parade/race laps. Many of the press folks had an opportunity to drive them both on the track and on the surrounding roads. The Signature scrapbook itemizes what each one did. If you ask nice, I might let you see my copy of the scrapbook.
The only two not involved were Signature 2, which had already been sold on EBay and delivered to Bob McDorman, and Signature 17, which was committed to the Chevy Rock and Roll Tour that weekend.

My SSR: 2004 Ultra Violet completely stock ... for now !!
OHHH look ... I can do the same thing ... I have a bone stock untouched 04 UV ... that should make it 1 of a kind.
I guess with all the plain Chevelle's being made into SS's and plain 69 Firebirds being made into 69 Trans Am's .... cloning a pace truck was just a matter of time.
Mind you I have 2 pace car replica's made by GM, one is a festival car, no track duty, but was all over Indy for press use, the other ... just a replica.
I guess each to their own.
I would actually love to have a pace truck, it would go well in my collection !!
