'05 6-Speed with new custom accessory - restroom rails?

I know...to each their own, but please explain to me what purpose these serve. Perhaps they function as "grab rails" for those times when you have to transport a 3rd passenger?

If the bed were open you could use them for tie downs. If it were red it could be a hose carrier :^)

...or maybe they can be useful after an all-night pub crawl. You eventually make it out of the bar, find your SSR, grab the restroom rail (for support), and....

Well, its just a stylin accessory and a matter of taste. But could be a good tiedown if the lid was removed. If you think about it, the SSR would be a much more useful tool it it had a roll top or canvas bedcover with some good tiedowns. Could then be used to conveniently pick up those larger items on a whim at the home depot or a yard sale. Irs kind of embarrassing sometimes when something you can fit into the back of a honda accord, won't fit into the SSR due to the low height of the bed cover. Happened to me last week and I will never hear the end of it.

I won't criticize you. I bought a color laser printer last week at Staples. It weighed about 67 pounds and the box was too tall for the SSR bed cover to close. Just drove it home with the bed cover up in the air. Now if had to transport a refrigerator, I agree...you should probably remove the bed cover.

Yeah, the Hot Wheels truck it ain't !

My neighbor has ACTUAL restroom rails on the top of his K5 Blazer. Cheap ladder rack he says.

Except for one small problem - they are on the lid, not the truck box.

Maybe the truck was used in a circus act.

I've seen these on eBay. They are "Putco SSR side rails," manufacture/product name, nothing to do with the Chevy SSR- for which they make no application.

Does look like a flower car to me, the ones that follow the hearse with the floral arrangements...

Less is more.

unusual modifications

I tend to be forgiving, having made a few regretful adjustments to my rods over the years. A doozie or 2 comes to mind. So lets be nice; those tie bar things are a factory enhancement on lots of late model trucks and suv's, even though they tell you not to tie anything onto them.
Ghesch: is that yellow SSR rear deck a perfect stage to have the Gieko insurance Gecko and the bud light frog with other animal buddies do a short version rock concert? never mind..

Your right Rube, what was I thinking in my previous posts (I'm such a scallywag). That being said, I have come up with a great idea for a steering wheel swap...

Or how about a pair of these chromed dock cleats (hey, at least they look aerodynamic)! Perfect accessory for those SSR Sailors that will never sail the 7 seas, but can "tie up" to a newspaper stand at the local 7-Eleven.

I don't necessarily care for them, but I could see them being utilized by someone that camps a lot (provided they're sturdy). You'd be able to tie down bulky sleeping bags, tents, air mattresses, etc. The fact that the rails are attached to the cargo door and not the side of the body is even better. One could open the cargo door without detaching all the paraphenalia tied to the bars.

I had a new '64 Triumph Spitfire. Bought it in Miami and ran up the East coast into Canada and all the way across Canada "car camping". That little luggage rack the Brits put on the back really came in handy. Kept the tent, sleeping bags, and air mattresses there. Full camping setup for me and my girl (future wife), trunk, rack, and behind front seat.

Had a lot of fun in that little rig . . . $2,500 brand new, great mileage, gutless, superb handling (took 1st place in an autocross event hosted by the Ottawa Car Club).

You're right. I didn't look that close. Pretty useless. Well, we all know that the SSR is a bit light in weight , so why not just add a few pounds to keep it from blowing away.
