Hi gents. New SSR owner here. I was the high bidder on the Sony HD. I ran a Carfax on it before bidding and can tell you that it's definitely an '03. I didn't check the other two VINS as I was zeroed in on this truck. I believe the Subway was an '05 as B-J doesn't get VINS wrong--they check paperwork very carefully against titles etc. The title to my truck lists General Motors as the current owner (well until the gavel fell anyway)--pretty cool to me. The Whelan strobes are cool too (none of the three SSRs had them going while on the block). Sorry to see that SPEED didn't show any of them crossing.
I just flew back in to Dallas from Phoenix after a whirlwind of paying for the thing, setting up shipping and then making a mad dash to Sky Harbor to make my 6:00 p.m. flight (lots of fun as I signed the bid ticket at 3:01 p.m. Mountain)! Happy to say that a Hertz Impala rental handles well when you need it to!!
I've always liked the SSR and am glad to see that some of you think I got a decent deal on the truck. Lots of history that I now need to dig up to determine what other races it paced as it appears that the Subway truck and mine shared duties in '05.
By the way, Mike Joy (of NASCAR on FOX and SPEED B-J coverage) was the high bidder on the white Lemans truck--great deal on that--the white pearl paint was cool. Not sure who got the Subway.
Should get the truck delivered in less than two weeks. When I do I'll post some pictures out here if anyone is interested.
My SSR: Silver on Black Final Prod 6 speed #23387, Signature #23, Signature #12
That's great news!!!
Congrats on the purchase.
There's lots of information available for you on this site.
VINs on SSRs are sequential - the only vehicle in GM's history to do so.
If you post the full VIN on the "Build Sheet" thread, one of the Fanatics will get you the original build sheet.
There are a lot of SSR get togethers - including Laughlin next weekend. You'd be an instant celebrity if you showed up with a pace truck.
Several of us were trying to figure out if the trucks were legal for the street, or if some de-construction would be required before they could be certified.
I'd love to take a high-speed night time cruise with the strobes going.
Great news that Mike Joy bought one as well. With all the crap they caught today from Fanatics, hopefully they'll treat SSRs better if some of them are on the block next year.
By the way - I suspect that both of the yellow/purple flamed trucks shared duties at several races.
There were two identical yellow trucks at Fontana when I was there for the February race in 05. Both definitely had the same wheels. In fact, I may have left some drool marks on yours.

.
There was some discussion earlier about whether or not the top is functional because of the strobe installation. Seems you will be able to answer that question for us.
Congratulations on your new truck and welcome to the family.
I guess the commercial was a good thing for Mike Joy as it would have been hard to bid while on the air.

You'll get what you've always gotten.

Well the trucks were kept locked all week, tops were not down in the staging lane--SO I bought it without knowing wheter or not it CAN go down! I know--crazy, but I crawled inside mine when they were all staged and it looked like the top was functional. The company that did the prep. on these did a sweet job (no hacking anywhere). The Whelands built into the Tonneau and two sail panels are sweet looking too.
Welcome gmkarguy! You'll find that the DFW group is very active. We get together quite freqently. Check out the Texas forum for more information on get togethers. At least once a month we meet in Lewisville at Weck's for Sunday morning breakfast and we'd love to have you join us. We're also having a Mardi Gras party on 2/2 at the Hard 8 BBQ in Coppell. Please join us whether you have your truck yet or not.

It is a good thing that one of the members was there and took pictures of the VIN plates on the dash.
According to the VIN the Subway truck is an 04. The other two are 03's. If the numbers are sequential then the Subway truck would be a mid year 2004.
2003 production 3,416 (00001 - 03416)
2004 Production 10,676 (03417 - 14092)

Pretty sure 9597 was an'05 built in the middle of the 04 production run - per Freezer:

There were preproduction '05s built during the '04 production. These would have been vehicles used to test the assembly process prior to start of production. I do not have the details of how many there were. If the parts were production intent and the vehicles were not destructively tested, they can be legitimately sold as company used vehicles. Such vehicles with non-production parts can be retrofitted with the correct parts and also sold. Every vehicle manufacturer will do these things because of the cost of destroying vehicles that could be sold. Those vehicles that cannot be raised to used car standards are destroyed.

Sequential order doesn't mean sh*t if GM choose were two pick off the line to upgrade to newer model years...
First time in GM history to sequential order vehicles and they blew that....
Lets face it, the reason we are all so upset is because we KNOW what the SSR REALLY IS, a fun ride!!
GM would have given one away if they were still in production, maybe.
I, like all of you, wanted the exposure of the SSR more than how much $$ it brought.
B/J Auction is for MONEY!! And they determine which is on and which is off.
There are just more, MOPAR, Vette, and Mustang people out there.
I am happy with our little secret, WE OWN SSR'S!!
I took mine out for a ride and just couldn't stop SMILING!!.
Wise words Obie Won....(The force is strong with this one ) Permagrins are ours!
