Welcome gmkarguy, you should fly back Phoenix and lead the Arizona members to Laughlin this coming Friday as they do have trouble staying in formation.

Looking forward to it! For now I'll need to be patient--probably two weeks or so before Passport Transport (now FedEx) gets the car to my front door. My wife and I haven't told our kids about what I bought. They should be jazzed when they see it.
I see that Jay has already chimed in, so thanks to all of you who emailed speedtv.com, I've found your website and can now account for two of the three pace cars sold in Scottsdale.
The red/white and blue one I bought paced four NASCAR races and then was relettered for American LeMans series duty. I think if it had been lettered for NASCAR the bid price would have gone considerably higher.
The white truck has a large illuminated bowtie in the bed cover that the flamed trucks dont have. However, this one lacks the front spolier lip that both flamed trucks do have.
Dont plan on doing much hauling... the electronics for the strobes take up a good bit of the carpeted bed. Both trucks have 11-12,000 miles.
I'm not sure if the strobes work, but the Whelen folks are good friends of ours, so I doubt that'll be a problem.
As for VIN's, I checked all three cars. both 03's have a "3" as the tenth digit. The "2005" did have a "5" in that position.
I can assure you that the skipping of these trucks by Speed was unintentional. If you think you're upset, I'll give you the email addys of some VERY pi**ed off AMC fans... we skipped a Hurst Rambler Scrambler and two AMX's.
Thanks to all for the great website and wealth of knowledge here. Our truck is headed east, and may enjoy a stay at Texas Motor Speedway until the snow melts up north... then it goes to New England, and will be kept in the public eye... details to follow!

Mike,
Welcome to the forum and hope you get some time to do some posting here. I am sure you have a lot of knowledge to share with many here.
Welcome to the forum Mike and congratulations on your purchase. I always enjoy your commentary on the auction block. I got to watch all 39 hours by taping some and watching the rest live.

Welcome, Mike
Glad to see the pace truck went to a good home.
I'd forwarded some info to the Speed email address Saturday night - really had hoped to see the SSR get positive press on air.
So - do I want to bring my Signature truck to BJ next year, or should I wait another 20 years or so?? One of the notes I emailed was asking Matt Stone if his signature on the Truck Trend article would add to the provenance - didn't get a reply.
Can you get me a Saturday afternoon spot on the docket??
Taped the whole thing again this year - glad I switched to a hard drive recorder, rather than a stack of tapes.

So Mikey Being in the job you had this weekend, did you get a short hammer on the bid …while it was of air.
Did you plan on bidding on it, or just feel it was a good buy and jump in???
Hope you have time to make one of our SSR runs someday.
Niagara Falls SSR Run - July 25-27/08
As for missing all three SSR on the block, and the AMC guys. B/J do plan for commercial time, as it follows the fantasy bid cars every time.
I would suggest to B/J that next year they line up the lawn mower cars and cow milking truck type cars, to fall in the spots following the fantasy bid cars.
No... none of the pace cars were "short hammered", meaning the auctioneer rushed the auction along so that a friend could get a deal. The auction block doesnt even know when we are in commercial break or not.
I've been looking for an SSR for some time... and a pace car can help us promote a business we have in New England... so I planned on bidding on them. Race fans will see it often, and we'll show it. Once we evaluate it, I'm sure we'll need "a few things", and I'll be back on the board.
As for the '05, we never saw it with the hood up... your GM friends can better enlighten you, but in recent years, most factory-provided pace cars have been pretty-stock under the skin... reliability being more important than added performance.
Good to hear you have a real interest in the SSR and had planed to get one.
Hope this one turns out to be a good one for you, and keep us in mind if you ever want to sell it.
Is a symbol for a joke.
I know B/J are under a spotlight and can not short hammer.
Do you remember any of the comments made about the SSR’S, while they where on the block??? It’s like you guy’s talking about our children.

I think B-J and SPEED should broadcast the auction the same way that ESPN/ABC does with auto racing which is when commercial time comes on the screen is split into two.
Problem solved!!!
