I think you should meet me in Texas. Or fly to Jersey and take the round trip. If you do that, I might even drive the out there. 1700 miles of supercharged fun!
Congratulations on the addition to your family! Definately let us know when you're coming. It sounds like a great time for a party and Austin is one of my favorite parts of Texas.

Are you sure that its not going to be "hers and hers"? I think she will get to drive which ever one she wants.
Steve, you have to let us know when you are coming through, so we can arrange a breakfast get together.

You must rid yourself of that Intrepid... it's bad for your image. But then again it would be fun to see who gets the first ticket. Which one am I driving? I want the fast one. Do we know which one that would be?

Word on the street here in Jersey, is that Austin is like a completely different place compared to the rest of Texas. And I mean that in a good way. Well, not a good way for the rest of Texas. Don't blame me....that's just what I heard.

She already told me that she was going to drive both, to decide which one she's gonna race, and which one I'll be allowed to drive. I guess that's a better response than I expected..."you bought what!?!?."
And...absolutely! I'm gonna haunt yas all. Breakfast here, lunch there, dinner over yonder. We'll have some fun!

Bad for my image? Those that know me can see me blubber like a sissy-mary, watching a chick flick, then see me slam dance and crowd surf at a death metal concert...and not think twice about either one.
I don't know much, but I figure the crank HP should be about the same. The new addition probably has a bit more, and with the 4.56 gears, should be faster. We can alternate.

Steve: Before I forget, I want to make SURE I say the following: when intending to apply vigorous amounts of throttle pedal to your new SSR, make ABSOLUTELY SURE that:
- The road is straight
- The road is long
- There are no side streets from which other vehicles can suddenly appear, thinking you are doing only double digit speeds
- When turning onto a road, you ensure you have COMPLETED the turn onto the road BEFORE you hit the gas (if you have any remaining component of turning remaining in process, a spinout that will scare the beejabbers out of you is pretty much inevitable)
- You are prepared for the top of 1st gear long before you expect it, because it is going to happen VERY quickly
- You have side lane room on your selected highway to handle potential severe loss of traction, because if you do not have at least a passenger or some cargo aboard, loss of traction IS going to happen, and then it's a matter of pvaement quality and road camber as to whether you stay straight or need directional correction. I have found she stays very straight even when spinning the tires all the way through first, BUT if the road has defects or camber, they could shoot you off course very quickly
- Make sure there are no police officers within a mile, because if there are, they will hear you. She is quiet under normal cruise and modest throttle, but when WOT is applied, the combination of supercharger, incredibly fast wind-up due to the 456 gearing and hi stall converter, and the dual shotgun exhaust can wake the dead. Dogs whimper. Ladies cry. Randy says she is "distinctive and unmistakeable" in her sound signature.
Also remember when in the "north country" that she has high performance tires that stick like glue at normal temperatures, BUT the downside is reduced traction in cold weather and truly marginal traction on snow or ice. Greg Ducato has driven her (when road testing the superbly built tranny he and his guys built for her), and one of his observations was "these new tires sure hook up a lot better than the stock ones", BUT they can kill you on snow or ice, and will be very easy to break loose on COLD pavement, even if dry.
Finally, the 92 octane fuel in her now is over a month old and therefore probably a bit deteriorated (I stopped driving her as soon as I had her detailed before placing the for-sale ad - she has been under cotton cover since then). I did not want to add a fuel stablizer, because I did not know how it might interfere with the supercharged tune and the O2 sensors. You'll want to burn through that gas and get FRESH fuel before really provoking her.
- Before changing to better flowing heads, which would add at LEAST 50 hp and probably more (I have analyzed the boost and torque curves, and the heads are a current cork), find MUCH stickier tires.
Her subtle exterior appearance and 16 inch vacuum idle fools people, Steve. She gets them by surprise when they hit the gas. When David Horner at Restoration Specialties drove her after working on Bevan Cates' SSR, he marveled at the dual personality. "Well engineered" is what everyone says. Deceptively smooooth. And everyone has been rreally impressed with how "factory" Randy made the supercharger look with his careful and subtle improvements to wiring routing and serpentine belt alignment.
I still get fooled myself, even after all this experience with her. When Randy and I drove her to pick up Red, we were on hilly 2-lane much of the time, and there was a lot of passing of slow vehicles. On one 50 mph pass, I was paying careful attention to the side roads and oncoming traffic, applied an unmeasured amount of throttle, and did not watch the speedo. When I looked down after the pass, we were doing 125 completely unintentionally.
You are going to have a really pleasant trip home. But drive CAREFULLY.

And just to be sure, i think i should drive back with WaySouth, and I can make sure she doesn't get carried away. If she did I could just make her pull over and drive it myself. That way you could BE SURE nothing is going to happen to her.
Yeppers,.. people just don't realize how giving I can be.

My original plan was to pick up the truck on Feb. 15th, and hang around Texas for the weekend. That would have been great to go on the day run Saturday. Doesn't look possible now...I have to wait to get my temp tags and I want to make sure Jim's all paid up, and everything is good to go before I head out there. I'm not sure, but more than likely, I'll be arriving sometime next week.

Go for a ride! It's only gonna get dirty on the trip back to Jersey anyway.
