Salvage Titled in Miami, anyone?

Found this , had front end replaced...hood, left front fender, fascia and grille. Not too worried about the mileage or re-sale value. $13K is too high, KBB more like $10K.

What do you all think? Anyone near here to check it out? As long as the top functions properly and the frame is straight. Parts are once again available Could be a good start for a custom?

Chevrolet : SSR - eBay (item 250745170673 end time Dec-29-10 21:14:27 PST)

Aloha and Mahalo

I am trying to sort this one out Mike and have an email into the guy although not really expecting to hear back. GMVis has this listed as a JUNK title but I have run into 2 others like this so not sure what is going on. I have spoken with one other that is for sale and they are adamant they have a Salvage (not Junk) title and pretty sure they are knowledgeable and being forthright.
I have sent a note to Byers requesting he double checks all three I have an issue with.
This one in particular states on the ebay History (as you have noted in Post #2) that it is Salvage, so as I say, not sure how much the GMVIS system is to be trusted.

Spent it's life in Texas... Lien Title in 09 followed auction in Texas May 2010 and now in Florida... with 120K+miles... so l why is he selling it now? I'd get the repair records...

I'm guessing here of course, but maybe it was damaged somewhere between the Lien reported record and the auction date. Lien report on 8/11/09 could be the payoff? Paid off, then sold at auction. Purchased and repaired in FL. Buyer grew tired of it, Who knows? I've emailed him thru eBay, no response yet.

The sum of the parts is worth the $10K IMHO.

I would agree with you especially now that the Tub is fixed. If I had room for another truck, I would buy it for the parts. Not sure I'd count on the motor or tranny though... not without driving it and checking it out.

Agreed, but a 5.3L Vortec and a 4L60E are very common. Easily repairable/replaceable. Same combo in my Silverado/Escalade custom conversion that I just bought.

I invited the seller to stop by here and say Hi.

Auto insurance on salvage titled vehicles is tricky, you usually pay the same premium you would have on a non salvage vehicle but in the event of a total loss you would get the value of a salvage vehicle. I believe some carriers use a value of 60% on salvage vehicles so as long as you get a 40% discount it would be a fair deal.

Hey, no problem. I had only posted it in the Deceased Thread. I only noted those posts to show I was aware of it.
There has been no Build Sheet run on this one on our Forum.

What about this one just listed?

1GCES14H56B122252
2006 #214/620 (no idea where he got the rarest of the SSR's, the top of the line 2SS and 1 of 544 w/400hp from)
6sp 2SS no VYJ - painted 96P - no boards - no ERK - ERG added - Major damage driver side - Title? Says clean
ebay seller russheck - located Southfield, MI.
BIN $21.9 - 32.2k mi
Not sure where he gets all the numbers he is rattling off.
This one looks like it isn't worth much more than $21.9 before it was whacked but has some upside if bought right, especially if the title is clean.

Quote from listing: The most expensive issue I have taken care of for you, as I have already bought and am including with sale, a complete rear quarter panel assembly, along with a complete power roof assembly with all 4 of the roof panels, rear glass, hinges, and hoses included. Both of these items will need installing and painting, the quarter is yellow, the roof aqua. These parts alone are worth well over $4000.00!

Chevrolet : SSR - eBay (item 250745731790 end time Dec-28-10 08:21:16 PST)

Ignore the first picture in the listing because that is what it looked like with nice wheels at some point in time.

You may want to investigate the title rules for your state. SOme states will not allow an out of state Salvage Title to be rebuilt and titled in their state. Also be aware that some of the "Owner Retained Salvage" is branded in the title history and any subsequent sales will be branded as salvage. Also some states like, Texas, havve various levels of salvage titles. Some are elligible for a rebuild and others are a death certificate and can only be parted out.

I saw this and have been watching it. It might be the only way back into an SSR for me at this point. Now who do I convince to loan me 10k on a beat up, 100k mile car?

Nobody!!! Do to the high mileage and a salvage titled, don’t even think about buying it as it might end up costing you more then you realize. Beside, don’t you need to take care of some other issue first?

Wow, you are so opinionated lately. What no naps? Beaten and used or a diamond in the rough? Isn't it possible to buy new, with an extended warranty, pay full price with or without mark up and still get boned by GM? Why just ask X man or Ricochet about their feelings on the "R".

Title aside, if you plan on keeping it, who cares! That's my opinion, I'm entitled to as it's my money on the line and not yours.

So tell me, what's the difference between a door and complete bedside replacement in LA vs. a front fender, fascia, hood and grille in FL? If it's done right, it's all good right? I mean that's what replacement parts are for aren't they? Why do we have a parts exchange? To keep them running! Any new or used car/truck is a gamble. Lemons, buy backs, etc...

If you can afford new or 30 new, good for you. Some of us aren't so fortunate due to Life's Challenges and a diamond in the rough would be welcomed so much more than going without.

As for your last line... I don't know what that means, none of my business. But is it yours to sound like your scolding a 2 yr old? NAP buddy NAP!

As for this particular SSR. I've asked the owner twice to have someone come and take a look see with no response. I've offered him to come here and say Hello. I explained who we are and what we do and how we help each other out, nothing. Asked him/her to tell us the story or write me and tell me the story because we have a wonderful friend here (CASH) whom keeps track of these things for historical reasons and no response.

Pesonally, I don't make offers based on a few distant pictures (10 footers)and a very few lines of info. I asked plastic or carpeted bed and got... plastic with carpet on top. I'm assuming it means plastic bedliner with carpeted bed cover and light. Was that an OEM combo in 2003

If you're going to customize it, especially serious changes, it'd be a shame to cut up a cherry truck, when there are ones needing fixing on the market.
We're not talking about the Mona Lisa here, but something put together of parts, that can be made good as new again with replacement parts.

Salvage, Rebuild, or JUNK Title? Guess what the answer was?

Thank you! Love it when we help each other out. Maybe it's a holiday delay. We'll see, as I prefer to give them the benefit of doubt.

Thanks again!!!
