SSR Fanatic's,
I'm looking for some recommendations on shippers to contact. I'm going to purchase an SSR and need to get some pricing info. Can you help?
Regards, Viper97
My SSR: '05 Concept Truck, powered by Heavy Duty rubberbands, and a really BIG WINDUP KEY!
While I don't have any recommendations for a shipper, it might be useful to others if you were to mention where you are shipping it from to where you are shipping it to...
I purchased my SSR from a dealer in Detroit and had it shipped to Las Vegas I simply googled the net and a whole slew of shippers came up, I filled in the info and within 2 days I had 10 different shippers quoting me a price.
There was both inside and outside shipping, ranging in price from $800-$3000 I took outside @ $895.00 door to door. It took about 2 weeks, but they tell you it could take up to 1 month, so be specific how fast you want it.
This time of year outside shipping should be no problem, I had to clean road grim from a snow storm when mine came out across Denver in March!
DAS Dependable Auto Shippers, call them, don't email them. She doesn't respond for like 2 weeks. I used them to ship a '34 Rat Rod pickup from WI to San Diego and my Harley from Oakland to Maui. They have online tracking of your vehicle. Good Luck!
Be aware - a lowball quote may be for open transport, Fedex ships in fully enclosed trucks.
I bought in Vermont and shipped to Los Angeles. The dealer set me up with a transport company, I do not recall the name. They delayed and delayed for WEEKS! The transport was PAID FOR, they never picked up my SSR, their truck broke down, a bunch of BS! Finally on a recomendation from a friend, I called Fedex. They picked up and transported as quoted, with no BS delays or other problems. It may cost a bit more, but I got what I paid for with Fedex!
*** Just remembered the crappy transport company name, AAAdvantage Auto Transport, or www. carmoves. com - I would avoid them like the plague!!!

Just a very important caveat! FYI: I had a cherry 98 Cadillac Eldorado trucked up
from LA,CA to Federalway,wa this last December,what a nitemare,I debated to
put it inside container,$1500.00,double freight, hindsite I wish I had done it!
I picked the car up two weeks later with fourteen thousand dollars worth of
damage, yes, the truck driver was a derelict SOB, I still get upset thinking about it!
Anyway, Pay the extra money and have it enclosed is my recommendation on
this vehicle, make sure the contract does not have an act of GOD clause!Wind, storms, flooding etc! That's what the outfit pulled with me,they were not going to pay a dime,They were trying to screw with the wrong guy!Three months
later and a hell of alot of grief I found out who the real owners were and had
the University due (free gratis) climate reports for ten days in the area they
said created all the damage rock storm! Bottom line be careful,my good buddy
had hundreds of vehicles transported from southern Cal. and never had a problem? I say You paid good $$ for your new SSR,protect it!
I sold the caddy to them for what I paid plus $300.00
PS: These trucking co are really flacky, they use Nevada corp. to hide their true
idenity, they make it really difficult to find out who the main principals are, they
change insurance companies all the time due to claims against them. Also make
sure you have your insurance on the SSR as a added security! If this advice
helps you I will feel better, ignorance is a costly SOB

Inside the trailer is no guarantee.
first move - dented quater panel and a hole in the car cover.
second move - almost rubbed through the clear - same quarter
third move - torn top.
Have shipped a few cars with dependable and they did a good job. Had an Edsel shipped from Washington Sate to NY and they did a good job ...BUT with the cost of shipping and ...if you can go get it yourself..make a trip out of it and have fun..this is what I will do next..this way you see the car in person...drive it trailer it home if you dont have a truck to haul rent one...you might be saving yourself heartache in the long run..if you can..
I second the idea of picking it up yourself. I bought mine in Detroit and drove it home to So. Cal. I'll admit I'm a little more tolerant of long days behind the wheel but I didn't have to worry about some guy who didn't care about my ride damaging it. Unless you are buying an old classic and question it's road worthiness drive it home yourself. It's a blast!

I would seriously look at enclosed, there is alot of hail all over this time of year, and flying rocks. Its worth the extra money just for the piece of mind.
Be very careful who you hire to transport your car. Make sure it's enclosed. Also do searches on the internet for complaints about them. A problem is that many of the most advertised transports on the internet actually subcontract their shipping, so you have no clue whether the driver is experienced in shipping vehicles or just desperate for work.
This guys are fantastic: Horseless Carriage 1-800-631-7796.
The driver made the dealer change tires when he picked it up. The insides of the truck are specially built with lifts and stuff to transport vehicles. He made the whole unloading process a real show.

I have cars shiped back and forth between the east and west coast 3-4 times a year and have NEVER had a problem with Horseless Carriage. You'll pay for the service but in the the end it is well worth it.
