want one

came close to buying one here in CA a month ago for 38,000 out the door, sticker was 46+ but got nervous and walked out of the finance dept, and the dealer is now calling me to come back in, saying he can better the deal...I am nervous about this being my "everyday" car since I am used to a mid-size 4-door but can't afford payments on both.................HELP me decide!

Do it

My SSR is my primary everyday driver....love it. The truck bed is great for storing those things you may want to carry with you (mine has a cover, cleaning supplies to keep my SSR looking good, and a jacket). Nothing feels better after a tough day at the office than walking to the parking lot and seeing my SSR sitting there waiting for me.....even better if it's a top down day.....

The price certainly is right, don't see you losing any money coming in that low? Don't forget this is a two seater only and really not very practical for anything other than pure enjoyment. I haven't seen any dealers going that low on a new 2005 and I've been around several dealers. I know they are dealing a little, but this is a real buy. Keep us informed if you buy, but don't tell us the price....

The SSR makes an exellent daily driver. I traded in an Avalanche on mine after I noticed I was the only one riding in it 90% of the time. The rear seat was a waste. The SSR is easier to park because of a very tight turning radius, plus it has a very large "trunk".Take note of how many times you actually need a rear seat before you make a decision. Let us know what you decide.

I bought a 04 three weeks ago. If I could have gotten a 05 at that price I would have done it. I could have gotten 1500.00 under invoice on the 05 But that was it. So I would go for it. Good Luck!

If it were just me and my husband (no kiddos) then I would drive mine all the time. It doesn't seem to have made it less appealing to those who do drive it daily.

Price was probably on '04

I'm guessing the price he's referring to is on an '04.

you're right

the price was on an '04 not an '05...same one I looked at nearly a year ago that the dealer wanted 50,000 for...lol, I'm not that crazy! Will probably go in to town tomorrow and see what they'll let it go for now since I drove by today and it was still there...will keep you posted.

P.S. He is a she...yet another chevy babe!

Mine is a daily driver. I traded in a 5 month old 2004 Trailblazer and 2002 PT Cruiser, paid way more than you will, and still have no regrets. This is NOT the vehicle for you if you have a family! I love driving my SSR, and everytime I go out to the garage it still amazes me that I own one! I don't think the newness and excitement of it will ever wear out! Go fot it!

I would offer 32 and see what they say. I have seen 03 and 04 SSR's selling here in Chesapeake Va. for that price. I drive mine every day and my paintings fit nicely in the back. It is a nice sized trunk/bed for art stuff.

HI artsmart,
First I want to tell you I moved you into the For Sale forum because prices were mentioned in your first reply. I am glad you told us what year you were looking at. Definitely there are a lot of 04s out there that will go for much much less. I know of a couple of dealers that have 04s left in my area. If it lists for 44,000 you should be able to buy one around the lower 32,000 range give or take $1,000 - 2,000 or so. All will depend on your area and your dealer’s willingness to move his SSR out.

Good luck and be prepared to shop outside your area or state if you want the very best deal.

Don't offer any more than $32k for that truck. You can find $45k-$46k trucks for $32k or less on E-Bay or at out of state dealers all the time!

just me and my dog Mighty

so much good advice, thanks guys! no kids in the house anymore so it would just be me and the dog (he goes to work with me everyday) or my husband if we're taking my car. need to haul art stuff and classroom stuff nearly everyday and what better way to haul it.

price check

I bought for 30.9 on a 46.8k list. I had to go out of state, all the local dealers were about 2-5k higher, and no one had my color (black). I also have to say I can hate dealing with car salespeople - its a constant game of doubletalk and "how much do you want your payments". One local dealer advertiserd his SSR for 30.995, I knew the exact car it was (he only had one) and when I called to bhe uy it he said that was the price "before you add the options". One local dealer was willing to go 31 but it was for a yellow or purple. In fact - one of his cars is on ebay right now for a reserve of 30995. Its yellow and has a 46080 list. (It's Lonfontaine Chevy in Dexter Michigan) He also has 2 purple ones.

Since I've been looking (about 4 weeks) the cars haved started to move around here - we have had a rough winter. Most every business is slow.

Recommendation: If you have a specific color or option list you want, start lookin because the inventory is drying up, slowly. If you don't care about color or options over the next 1-2 months I would expect a little more price erosion.

car salesmen

you are right about not wanting to deal with the car salesmen...the very reason my last 5 vehicles have been ...dare I say the word...Fords, my bro-in-law is a general manager...no muss, no fuss...tell him what I want, am willing to pay and he delivers the next day and he gives me excellent trade in value

have decided that I am going to offer low, leave, and wait to see what they will come back with...they've called me once, sure they will call again. since weather out here is pretty constant I don't forsee too much in the way of them suddenly moving off the lot unless someone get a real big tax refund

color is not a real biggie...would opt for purple, black, yellow, or red (in order of preference) but do want chrome wheels, etc.

already ordered personal plates - CRZNGRL - good for any color

Jeeze!

Wish I were out your way cuz I don't fly anymore. Went into my local dealer this a.m. and they actually tried to raise the price on me (different rep). Walked out again...insulted! Guess I'm not meant to have the one I want. Can't imagine they expect to sell anytime soon!

California

The one I have been looking at is a $46,385 ultra violet with:

integrated running board
chrome wheels
carpeted cargo area
cargo net
tow package

They came up with $36,694 (includes tax, license AND a $4170 trade...2002 Ford Explorer) out the door. THEN they offered me financing at 7.9% Requested quotes from some other dealers in the southland and most are discounting 11-12K.

Will out of state vehicles fly in CA?

You can do better. Just make sure the one you buy has all the California requirements in regards to emissions. They are a bit more strict out there. I am also an art teacher and this ride is perfect for our careers. Hope you get one soon. Time is on your side and they wil be sitting on the lots but it seems out of state purchase is your best choice. What is the blue book on that explorer? Sure seems like a low price but I have not researched the blue book on the 02 explorer. There are an awful lot of those around so that may make sense.
