Chrome or Polished Alternator?!

Anyone address the fact that our Alternator's are ugly?? It's the first thing I see when I open my hood!
Any of you change yours yet? I'm researching it now, and want to get the best quality for the buck!
All suggestions helpful!

Check Tuffstuff - they supply a polished or plated OEM alternator at fairly reasonable prices. I did some reworking on mine - a few spots were still showing some of the OEM markings. I purchased from them directly. They also offer an upgraded alternator for high-amperage audio applications. I stayed with the stock unit.

I also purchased a pulley from Zoop to replace the stock pulley.

I polished and painted mine. Because I have so much polished stuff in the engine area already it looks good but if you want the super shiny bling I would go chrome.

I found this one!

And wanted to get some feedback, it's a 140 amp model it's chrome plated and polished with sharp lines and a nose cone with a cool design!
I understand that our SSR's have a 145 amp alternator, would that be a problem?

They won't mount up to the 04 and 05 models but they do have one for the 06 models, you can buy direct from them at Powermaster
They wanted a $2000 buy in to give a $15% discount, way over my head for the $$$ ask for Mike, they were very nice!

PowerMaster states...

"Do you have a chrome alternator application to fit my 2006 Chevy SSR 6.0L LS2 6 speed"?

Matt from Powermaster says, Sorry, we do not have an application for the LS2.

Look in the phone book for starter/alternator re-build shops. Good shops should be able to tear your's down, give you the pieces and you can send out the housing to be polished or chromed, get it back and take the pieces back to the shop to get put back together again. This way you know you're getting a polished alternator that will fit.

The older alternators were pretty easy to disassemble. I took a few apart and shipped the housings to Brown's Plating when I lived in Ohio. These newer alternators maybe a little more difficult to disassemble. I haven't looked at it close enough.

One more thing...chrome plated "stuff" holds in heat. If I do mine it will be polished.

Hey George,
Grandma in the N GA found a local place to get a polished alternator, I have no idea what price but they could probably get one or do yours as well. PM them when they get back from the Keys and they might be able to give you a lead.

Looked the part up online and they had the same part number and same Amps 145 so I assume they are the same.
