I bought my SSR with the promise from the dealer that they'd get me a replacement console key. When i drove the 30 miles out there to get my plates and the key, they gave me a replacement lock with two keys (#102 if anyone is interested). I won't get into details on the rest of that converstaion.
Searching around here, i found that you need to be able to LOCK the console to remove the lock, which i can't do. I'm also not too crazy about ripping apart my car without a manual for a stupid lock.
I figured i'd ask on here before going to a locksmith and being charged lots of NJ dollars. Does anyone have the same key code on their console lock (#033) that would be willing to make a copy and send to me??? I would pay for the shipping and the time spent. If you're in the Northern NJ area, i'll even buy you a beer or two (or 30).
My SSR: Slingshot Yellow VIN 20778 Born 05 May 2005 (05/05/05)
Sorry, Jim . . . just checked and my key number is 103.
For what it's worth . . . since "adopting" the DOOPHUS way back in June of 2005, I have yet to even consider locking the console. If some thug wants in, I would rather make it easy for him rather than risking expensive and possible irreparable damage to the console and/or the lid.

Same with me Doophus. Had to go out and check mine (106) as they are still taped to the bottom of my glovey.
I guess in retrospect you could have asked the dealer to install it.
Too bad. I was looking forward to those 30 beer but not the drive home.

Me too, Cash . . . exactly why I made a quick check.

Interesting #32 is also a MY2004. It seems possible keys are somewhat in sequence although Doophus at #103 was born 5.5.2005 and Kate at #106 was born 2/16.2006. #33 is likely going to require assistance from another 2004.
I might be able to save 13,514 trips to the garage.

I really appreciate you all checking. FYI i do have a spare bedroom. Also, Cash, I know its hard to get things across the border from canada - i guess i'd have to pony up and take a trip to BC to get the key! while i'm there i'd stop back into Banff, Jasper, and why not check out Vancouver while i'm at it. I used to live/work in Glacier NP, Montana before i got a real job in NJ. My heart is still in the Rocky's.
I also agree that i'd usually rather not lock the console, to deter anyone from breaking it - but i'd still like to have the key just in case i come across a bag of gold or a signed babe ruth rookie card. i guess i just want to keep honest people honest and have the option.

A Rocky Mountains guy in NJ? Sounds like a basis for a sitcom! Let's call it Doc!
If I was playing horseshoes I would win! Close enough where I deserve a cigar anyway.
Even if you don't use the key it is a good idea to have it. Afterall, you might buy a couple more SSR's and eventually have to part with #1, just because you don't have enough garage space. Of course you could always hand the guy the new lock with 2 keys and tell them how lucky they are!
Anyway, it is probably a good idea to get one, just so you have it, but whoever does it, get 2 because it will be way cheaper than getting the second later.

I ran into the same problem about the keys when I purchased my SSR.After buying a new console lock & keys and finding out it had to be locked to remove it,I went to my local Locksmith ang gave them the number off of the lock cylinder and $12.00 and Five minutes later I had a new set of keys for my console. So I suggest checking with the Locksmith Shop on making some keys.Hope this helps,Bert.
Jim, I paid $18.00 for two console keys a fews years back. Some Chevy dealers are not aware that A-1 Securities is the only vender that will make an original console key for your "SSR". If thats the case just give them this information: A-1 Securities FAX is 804.359.9415, or call 804.359.9003 ext 72. Don't bother to call them yourself because they will only take an order from a Chevy dealer that provides them with proof that you own the SSR.
