Mike,
I have a spare if you need it. Yours might be able to be repaired if it stopped working all together, most of the time there are small rocks wedged in the brushes. I've fixed two that had that issue. Mikes is a little better but I know of at least one situation where the same thing happened to that model as well. I was going to send you a PM, your parts are here.

Maybe you can bring that fan down to let me take a look at it, get your parts and possibly borrow my spare fan???? You might be able to lightly tap your fan housing to dislodge the rocks and get it working again but I can take it apart if needed.

Let me know

I have been building them for 6 years now, with about 750 in service. I have replaced maybe 7 or 8 of them under my liberal warranty... and a dozen more with my reduced cost exchange program. Electric fan motors with brushes wear out...... that's normal. Kinda like brakes and clutches. I consider an electric fan motor as a consumable.

You can also buy replacement motors on line (Jeg's & Summit) for the fan that I sell.

Let me know if I can help... I think that I have a couple of OEM "take-offs" that I can send you.... for the cost of the shipping.

Regards,

Mike

This is truning out to be a "Mike" thread

Mike in Az, the issue I saw was not wear, it was a rock or dirt as well. I'm sure your version has a better shield than the OEM foam pad and thus much less likely for the dirt issue. I know it's a lot more robust mechanically and electronically. Wow, a 1% fail/wear rate over 6 years is pretty good, wish GM worked with you earlier

Mike in Atl, just noticed that you mentioned the R has been down for a month? Might was well just order a new Mike in AZ fan, it should be to you in 2-3 days, get that thing back on the road!

When Mikey replaced my OEM fan it was still working. I did not want to chance the Arizona heat with a failure. When I compared his replacement to the original fan I just abandoned the OEM fan to Mikey to keep for someone who wants "Original". I would not ever put it back on my truck.

Yes the OEM fan can be rebuilt but I have worked on and restored British cars and sometimes "Original" still means "Working but Badly Engineered". I sincerely respect those that can rebuild the OEM fan...it is just not my preference.

Go with a Mike in AZ fan. The OEM fans fail from other issues besides sand. In fact if you are planning to add HP upgrades Mike has a much better fan than OEM.
