GoBox toolboxes are shaped like Chevy logo

John Whitaker admits he's "always been kind of a Chevy guy."
As a teenager, "I fell in love with a '55 Nomad station wagon," says Whitaker, who over the years has owned several Chevys, including a few Nomads, one of which he's had for the last 35 years.
Whitaker worked as an engineer for more than 20 years, then as a manufacturer's rep and in product development. He and a friend helped develop tall, NASCAR-style, pit-size toolboxes, and secured a license from General Motors Corp. to put Chevy Bowtie emblems on them.
But at $7,000 to $10,000 each, such boxes have a limited market. "We wanted something with more appeal," said Whitaker, who walked out of his house one day, noticed the Bowtie badge on the grille of his Chevy Suburban and decided to make a tool box in that shape.
He took samples to a trade show last spring at the former Charlotte Motor Speedway and enjoyed tremendous response. The same thing happened a few weeks later at a show in Pennsylvania. "When can we get one?" people asked. And it wasn't just people with Chevys back home in their garages who were asking. People who drove Fords and Dodges wanted them, too.
Whitaker and Co., LLC of Birmingham, Ala., now produces Bowtie-shaped GoBoxes in two sizes. Whitaker also has secured a license to produce boxes in the shape of Ford's Blue Oval and is in licensing negotiation with Dodge.
A large, 11-drawer, 88-pound GoBox designed to mount on a wall or to sit on top of a tool cabinet is priced at $649. A smaller, much lighter (11 pounds) and portable box is $89.95.
The Chevy boxes come in two styles -- standard and vintage -- and are available in several color combinations. The boxes are made from steel and are powder coated.
GoBoxes also produces tool roll carts, tool chests and workbenches.
All products are available through the GOBOXES - Home
and soon will be offered through several automotive aftermarket product catalogs. Several Chevy dealerships have signed on to sell the boxes through their parts and accessories department later this year.
