I would like to "BUY" a Chrome alternatorfor my 05' w/automatic. New or Used, I can pay with paypal or cc#. If it's used, give a total price with shipping to zip code 71322. Or if you know of a source for purchasing a new one, Please let me know or paste the link. Thanks
Instead of buying a new chrome alternator, I bought a chrome housing kit for 109 from DB Electric in Tennessee. I am going to do a gut transfer since mine is still in good shape. They were easy to work with, give them a call.
D&B does not make the Chrome Alternators anymore, or at least the last time I contacted them.
Floyd, Tnssrman, has some chrome ones and Tuff Stuff has some, I understand.
I do have a source which I hope to have put together in the next few weeks.
Local Florida source, I hope to do exchange program.
I will post a new thread when I get this together.
BTW, do NOT go over 180amp alternator, I have been told that our system will require a resister over 200amps. OEM is 145amp, I have a 180amp Chrome and it is 4yrs old.
Depending on the state of items that are being ran off the battery, besides the battery being charged, the "STOCK" electrical system is challanged at best ..... Add some fan(s) a after market amp and you will be running that alternator round the clock.... Then throw in driving your "rig" in hot weather with the A/C on at night with the lights on.... The list goes on there DICKTATOR and I'm sorry to say that you are WRONG on what you stated about a 180 amp alternator being the max for a SSR.
You might want to do some research on the topic at hand.... Like I have, when it comes to amps and the use of them said amps that pertain to a SSR with all of the mentioned items.... Oh sheeeet DICKTATOR.... I forgot too add the winter months use of a SSR.... The use of wipers, heater/defroster/ rear window/mirror heater and god forbid if you have Muth turn signal mirrors added into the equation! Wait!!! Don't hit that heated seat button.... Oh no..... You did! How stupid of me there DICKTATOR..... You don't drive your rig in the winter..... It sits in the garage
I forgot to add the water pump for the Supercharger into the fray when it comes to amp draw that is there all of the time when one hits the key.... I'm not talking about the Florida Keys here either .... Just so you know ..... Back to the topic at hand.... A chrome alternator.....I'm sorry for my jacking of your thread there "CAJUNSSR" .... They are out there just be carefull on what/where you buy it
BLACKIE .... While I'm at it.....You need to shut up there REBEL and keep your comments to yourself and keep your "ONE LINERS" that you post .... Also to yourself.... Don't screw with me REBEL!

Reason: TO GIVE DICKTATOR AND ABOVE ALL....REBEL A CLUE
Here Damon.... So get it right! I'm just stating that he is WRONG here! If I remember correctly here Damon I sold you the complete gauge pack that sits on top of your counsole for a very generous price.... What was the price Damon? You can't remember can you.... It must be that old age thing....No? I can, it was $375.00 you think of that everytime you look at them! Sheeet.... Damon....I'll put you in the same category as REBEL... You just one upped him though YOU tried to make a sentence I'm not one to hide behind a computer..... YOU and REBEL should just leave it alone.....You need to clue up here and keep your comments to yourself.... You are a very shallow man Damon! Don't worry though Damon..... There's plenty of your type here on this forum, so you are not alone and should feel right at home
Dave
Just to point this out to you Damon.... This is not a thread.... We have jacked "CAJUNSSR" want to buy post..... Check with DICKTATOR..... He will clue you up!

There should be no need for anything to be added to a vehicle on a well built alternator, it should be "plug and play" no matter how high the output. The alternator will only produce an output equal to the demand. Some alternators don't work well at lower RPM's, and I suspect that is where the resister comment comes into play. There are alternators out there that do not work well at idle RPMs, you need to find one that will work at normal operation.
Higher voltage is a common way to get more amperage but that will get you into issues, especially with our computer controlled vehicles. As voltage increases the amperage needed decreases.
But, if we are talking apples to apples, if you have a 145 amp alternator and you draw 160 amps the alternator will operate at 100% capacity but not keep up with draw and eventually the battery will drain. If on the other hand you have a 300 amp alternator and run 160 amps it will only operate at about 50% output and will have plenty of overhead left for other accessories. Make sure you have wiring that can handle the complete load required, that could get you into issues as well, don't want melting cables or a fire caused by insufficient load handling capabilities.
Not sure if our computer comes into play in any of this, kind of doubt it, but I would love to learn more about the interface in our vehicles and learn a little more from the experts. Interesting discussion ........ would like to know more about where this "resistor" comes into play but I'm thinking it's the idle output and forcing a poorly selected alternator into producing an output at lower RPMs. Just make sure you do your homework when selecting a high output alternator and you should be fine.

Okay, so without anyone getting their proverbial panties in a twist, ( I think Blackie is just having funny not trying to cause havoc), and knowing that there have been quite a few stock items on the truck, that could have been better, "What size alternator, Amperage, would people suggest for the SSR"?
I've got a Supercharger, and amp for stereo, and other various items running off of my stock alternator.

Thanks Dragon2U very good discussion.
I didn't say "I know", I said "I was told" that you need a resister over 200amps by the Generator Manufacture for our system.
ALL the SSR's have 145 amp alternators as OEM. Chevy must have thought it was enough for our system. But what do they know.
You are a 100% correct here my friend..... Good God you can't disagree with someone here on this forum without others taking it all wrong Ya know Ed, I've been called a lot of things in my lifetime..... But I have never been called "CAUSTIC"..... That is a good one! It would get "word of the day" where I work.
Onward,
Let me clue some of you in here.... DICKTATOR is the first guy on this forum that I exchanged numerous P/M's with and have talked with on the phone. I know he's a great guy..... So please don't waste your time telling me something that I already know! I'm just disagreeing with him..... A 200 PLUS amp alternator will be fine in the SSR ..... At least over here in NORCAL it will. On a parting note.... You know I love you DICKTATOR! I was pissed that I didn't get to shake your hand at Flagstaff life goes on my friend

Blackie the guy I work with/for has been one of my closest friends for over 30 years and when people listen to us share barbs with each other they think we are pissed at each other. We laugh at them when they realize we are just poking fun. I say to him alot that if I had feelings that would have hurt

I don't want to order the wrong one, so can Hydu give me a little assistance here? What is the correct part number from Tuff Stuff? Or is it best just to call and talk to them? Did you get any of the chrome accessories?

I'll need to dig up the part #, or you can ask OP, he bought one last year.
