The "National Event" thing was discussed numerous times, and at the Springfield rally, and the consensus among those present was that due to the low turnout for Springfield, holding a national every two years might generate more participation. Holding it every two years also would allow for more local or regional events without jamming anyone's calendar.

Everyone has an opinion (probably not as important as mine!) but I say let the Texas folks run with this. We have more than a year to decide if we will attend, and after all it ain't mandatory, and there ain't no national board of directors to decide. Anybody else want to volunteer to do this....? Anybody?

Go for it OP, Focks, Wildcat, Nancy, Phoenix, etc., etc.!

My humble opinion (coming from rally planning experience) is:

If you have this many people in TX willing to work on this rally together, go for it. It is very hard to put on a big rally like this by yourself and it will only be better because of the joint effort.

I enjoyed seeing Springfield, but I think moving the event around would be best. Gives us all a chance to see more of the USA! Austin Hill County in June 2009 sounds GREAT...

Perhaps Illinois or Indiana for the next big gathering??? May of 2011? Maybe we could check out the Indy 500??? Just thinkin' outloud again.

well, just got back online.
Sorry if this thread caused any turmoil, but I wasn't the first to announce it.

It was publicly, verbally announced in Laughlin and then posted on the forum, I just reposted Phoenix's original post and solicited for help from those that could contribute. I also thought the meet would be a good excuse for a bunch of SSRs to get together, which is always a good thing, RIGHT???

I, also did not think it was fair for only a small handful to take on all this decision making alone so as to avoid problems such as this. Spread the blame for when things go wrong...

I received several phone calls, pm's, and emails concerning this upcoming meet. Most were very happy to hear the beautiful Texas Hill Country was being looked at as it is the most scenic in the state and provides the best chance for rides like Nancy24 stated. I couldn't agree more with her post. Right on Nancy!

Many of those that contacted me wanted to help in some way and a few asked about details of the upcoming meeting which I didn't have as work will probably not allow me to attend, that is why I have been doing local scouting during my free time.

I still have two other locations I am going to visit if those that seem to be the "primaries" on this still want me to. If not, I will back away and lend my support where it is welcomed and gear up for the BIGGEST national meet EVER. Where else but TEXAS.....

I am here to help, not hurt. Please keep this in mind and RE-read my original post in this thread.

Thanks everyone!!!!

I just spent most of the hour re-reading this thread I suggest others go back to read it too. National SSR meet in Centralized local!
I have also recieved PM's. No one is being left out and I am sorry anyone feels that way. OP you continually said You would do what ever you were asked to do but you couldn't dedicate yourself because of work. Johna has done most of the research, she has put together a 3 ring binder Planner with pages of info, a proposal.

We do need local SSR owners to help but seeing how 15 people will have 15 different opinions will not accomplish a successful event.
We do want the help.
Johna and Melvin are on a trip with their kids but she said she will check in when they get to a spot with wireless.

1. we dont' know how many people/cars to expect so we can't say that this area will work the best. We would like everyone to stay at the same Hotel.
2. the prices we have so far
king/2 queens $90. per night
Ex. King $119.00
Family suites $159. per night
1 Bdroom Suites $185 per night
2 bdroom suites $260.per night

3. Free wireless in each room
4. there are 191 guest rooms plus suites
I am sorry We can't change the date of our visit to the area, it took several tries to get our schedules together for this one as it is.

We are trying to keep the cost per person down as we know there might be more travel days to and from.
If we decide to continue with the National Rally in Texas 09.
After everyone reads the thread link we might need to discuss whether or not to wait til 2011 as mentioned instead of every other year.

This is part of a PM sent to me, I dont' want to drag anyone else into this but they have planned events and this was their advice.
Try to find a nice place to hold the event, but keep the cost of accommodations as low as possible.

I will wait to hear from Johna, Nancy and any other members before we continue with this venue.

Machell, I really don't think you need to be so politically correct. You guys have done a lot of the legwork, just go for it. Again, you can't please everyone.....

The Texas group's efforts are appreciated!

I say, run with it. No need for a vote unless.... we have another group of people that want to do all the work for setting up a different location.

I'm thinking 2011 could be a left coast week long tech session in surf city

Plan it and they will come! If someone has a problem with the location they can just attend one they do like somewhere else. We will be there!

As Machell suggested, I want back to reread this thread & I couldn’t help laughing as I ate my lunch in the R thinking of what Nancy said.

I grew up in North Texas and believe me the Hill Country is the best location for this event. How about Lukenbach? We could all camp out in the dance hall!?! OK, just kidding I agree with most everyone else, if you have the folks to do the work, let em do it! I hope to make it!!
