Was I just having a "Senior Moment" when I heard Texas being asked to host the next national rally? This was brought up at the dinner in Springfield and seem to be a done deal...Nobody else stepped up to do it, and we had quite a few folks there that night.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I've been told so often I was hearing voices, I thought I imagined that. Jeez, I feel relieved. I'll buy you one of Focks's beers when we get to TX in '09!

Well obviously you are talking about me......so lets get one thing straight!!!
My feelings are not hurt....... all I did was raise some questions on the "Central Location" This run originally was in thoughts of keeping the location Central for all fanatics to come and enjoy and it's main purpose was to bring as many SSR into one Central Location!!!!
That's why I hate forums.....people put and read more into then what is really there
I support the Texans for holding this event and I will do my best to be apart of it

As any of you who have put together an event knows, it takes a lot of work and time. Gerry and I enjoyed doing it, but as much work and time is involved in putting together an event in your own area, it is much more difficult to do it long distance. As it turned out, we got very little response from the SSR owners in the central area, so trying to find someone else to take over in that area didnt seem like a strong possibility.
Texas has a very active group, and they are located centrally between the East Coast and West Coast, so Gerry and I decided to ask them if they would take it over for 2009. They agreed so we said, "Go for it."
We will be there in '09 and are willing to help the Texas Group in any way we can.
I'm sure that if anyone from the Missouri area would like to take it over in 2010 or 2011, the Texas Group would be glad to turn it over to them.
Thanks to all who did support the Springfield Event and I hope Texas gets the support it deserves...................
I couldn't begin to improve on Lloyd's opinion . . . so I won't even try . . . it represents EXACTLY what I think.
I want to add though, if you wanted to "centralize" a location based on demographics rather than geographics, some part of Texas would be the most rational choice as it probably represents the most central region for the most SSR owners, those that live in warm climates. I certainly don't mean to belittle those that live in the Northeast, the Midwest, the Northwest or Canada, this is just a demographic fact, controlled by the "convertible" aspect of our trucks. More convertible vehicles are sold to people that live in warm climates PERIOD.
Besides, I've always wanted to visit the 2nd largest State . . .

So we really have more than ONE national event already.
So the question I think to be asked is:
Do we want one event to be designated as "The National Event"?
This is a nice "concept", but is only viable if we have one group of people in charge willing to do it...and willing to do it in a "central" location.
What I see here is a bunch of different people willing to step up and make a bunch of different events all over. Some of these events become "national events" and that is due to the effort put forward by the organizers.
Even though having a "The National Event" seems like something to be done, I think that because we have so many people willing to create events and so many people willing to attend them, that by having one "The National Event" we will be limiting ourselves and missing out on other great places to visit and cruise.
I like the way someone is willing to step up and create a local event which becomes a national event.
I personally don't want to see ONE event labeled "The National Event"
I want to see a bunch of National Events....
I WOULD HATE TO KNOW THAT I WOULD HAVE TO GO TO THE SAME PLACE EACH YEAR
seems to me that only one person got her feelings hurt..........
Since there are many "her's" on this site, and you never seem to have positive things to say, unless you have meet any of the people you might be referring to, shut you mouth!

Gerry and I didn't want to do another Springfield from all the way out in California, so we offered the event to Texas. They accepted, and so far as we're concerned, it's theirs if they still want to do it.
If they don't want to do it they should offer it up and see if anyone else accepts it.
Personally I hope the Texas Group will go ahead and set up their committee and get on with the planning...................enough said.

The event was Lloyd and Gerry's to offer, Texas accepted...done deal.
Our plan is to make this rally the biggest and best by offering something for everyone to enjoy, lots to do and see, and some of the best friends you'll find anywhere. We really hope that everyone will try to attend, but we do understand that not everyone will be able to attend. Several of us have been writing ideas down since Springfield. Now we just have to put them into actions.

I'm sure it will be fantastic, and we appreciate the Texas Group's efforts.
