2010 Chocolate and Covered Bridge tours

October 8, 9, and 10 2010!

Well.... once again that time of year is creeping up very fast. We're looking to try something different this year. Doug (Ratical) and I are still working out details, but the idea is to provide a few different things groups can do rather than have everyone drive en-masse from place to place.

Friday
Meet & Eat (isn't that all we do on these events anyway? )
I believe we've settled on Piero's again in Akron.

Saturday
The idea came up of providing a few alternative activities for Saturday. So, here's what we're going to do:
End the evening with dinner and desert at Doug & Margo's place on Saturday evening (7 PM-ish).

I'd like everyone to post what they plan to do.
  • If you're going to do the chocolate walk, be sure to register on the site for your button (so you can get your freebies at each of the locations).
  • For the Hershey show, I'll have directions to get there from the hotel (although it's quite easy).
  • And for the traditional chocolate/candy run, we'll meet in York as usual at Stauffer's Cookie Company outlet store. (directions will be posted later)

Sunday
For Sunday, a liesurly drive to see some covered bridges followed by a picnic lunch. This worked well last year. I've factored in a few places we can stop for pictures as well.

Planned Bridge Tour Route

Ideas for Monday:

Well, I'm not sure what we could do there. We've already done the PA railroad museum and National Toy Train Museum. (The Hershey show ends on Saturday so that's obviously out.)

Accomodations (Thanks to Doug/Margo)

Holiday Inn Express, 101 Crosswinds Drive, Lititz, PA 717-625-2366
Room Rates:
4 - One King Bed rooms, non-smoking - $112.99 plus tax on Thursday and Sunday. $130.99 plus tax on Friday and Saturday.
10 - Two queen bed rooms, non-smoking - $112.99 plus tax on Thursday and Sunday. $130.99 plus tax on Friday and Saturday.
They will hold these rooms until September 7th. After that its the hotel's normal rates at first come first serve basis. Please be sure to tell them you are with the SSRfanatics for the special rate.
This hotel is about 5 miles from our house.

The second option:

Boxwood Inn Bed & Breakfast, 1320 Diamond Street, Akron, PA 800-238-3466 There are 5 rooms available at this location. It has a beautiful deck outside with a great sun porch. Check out rooms on the web at Bed & Breakfast Lancaster PA - Pennsylvania Dutch Country PA.
Room Rates:
4 rooms at $120.00 a night plus tax. They are all on the second floor.
1 Carriage House Suite with a jacuzzi tub and fireplace - located in the building next door on the second level at a cost of $195.00 per night.
They will hold these rooms until September 12. After that time regular rates apply. Be sure to mention SSRfanatics for the special rate.
Both locations supply breakfast included in the cost of the room.
This B&B is about 1 mile from our house.

This isn't set in stone yet... just posted something to get it on people's radar. Stay tuned!

It could happen.

Kevin;

Put us down as "possibly maybe"

We'll talk at WDC.

We're now officially booked at the Holiday Inn and unless we have a tornado (just kiddin') we should be there sometime (TBD) Friday evening.

Hello, and welcome! Right now, the plans aren't set, but the idea was to do the AACA car show/swap meet, not the AACA museum.

Check back on the thread here for updates in the next few weeks.

Hotel & B&B info

Here are the accomodations we have come up with for the Chocolate/Covered Bridge weekend:
Holiday Inn Express, 101 Crosswinds Drive, Lititz, PA 717-625-2366

4 - One King Bed rooms, non-smoking - $112.99 plus tax on Thursday and Sunday. $130.99 plus tax on Friday and Saturday.
10 - Two queen bed rooms, non-smoking - $112.99 plus tax on Thursday and Sunday. $130.99 plus tax on Friday and Saturday.

Both locations supply breakfast included in the cost of the room.
This B&B is about 1 mile from our house.

We are looking at other bed & breakfasts and as soon as we know availability, we will post the information. We tried several times to contact Doneckers and when we visited the property it was rundown and looked unoccupied so we did not pursue this location any further.

Please pm us wherever you make your reservation so we can keep a count on both locations.

Thanks for the room info Doug.

I'll plan on booking at the Holiday Inn so I can run escort duty for those that need/want it. And if you can't wait for the chocolate, Wilbur is less than 2 miles due north.

Those who would like to smell nitro fumes and feel the ground shake this is only 1/2 hour from here. We find the best thing is to attend qualifing on Fri at 2:30 & 5:30 Track is secured at 7 pm. The last run is usually around dark the the flames are high and the speed is incredible.

Hi John, Yes we will be in the R. We are leaving here on the 1st and making our way to Montreal and then down to visit Mason for a couple of days in Vermont. We saw the thread about the tour and thought it sounded like fun. We hope to see you on the 8th if all goes well. (and John, it's Cow Trail Lane!)

Well.... once again that time of year is creeping up very fast. We're looking to try something different this year. Doug (Ratical) and I are still working out details, but the idea is to provide a few different things groups can do rather than have everyone drive en-masse from place to place.

Friday: Meet & Eat (isn't that all we do on these events anyway? )
Locations TBD.

Ideas for Saturday:
For Sunday, a liesurly drive to see some covered bridges followed by a picnic lunch. This worked well last year. Not a lot of driving, no worry about emergency pit stops, and following the picnic lunch, you can leave for home while it's still plenty light or hang out if you have plans for Monday.

Ideas for Monday:

Well, I'm not sure what we could do there. We've already done the PA railroad museum and National Toy Train Museum. (The Hershey show ends on Saturday so that's obviously out.)

Both locations supply breakfast included in the cost of the room.
This B&B is about 1 mile from our house.

This isn't set in stone yet... just posted something to get it on people's radar. Stay tuned!
Has the agenda been set yet?

Location for Friday, meet & eat?
Plans set yet for Saturday?
Time and starting place for Sunday?
Or is too early for answers to these questions?

We are about 1 ˝ hour from Hershey and are trying to decide, book the hotel, drive back home each day or get a campsite somewhere in-between.
