The Beach Cruise was featured on My Classic Car earlier this year. There are
stills and a short preview of Episode 13, Season 13 on the My Classic Car website
Our SSRs will be on the grass at Rotary Park Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. Security will be on site, eliminating the logistics of parking at the hotel. Parking at the Lakeside will be limited this year with the auction happening on the open parking lot of the Lakeside.
Registrations for the 2009 Beach Cruise was capped at 700 cars. We have secured additional space to accomodate up to 800 cars.
The setting is spectacular. The car show is staged from the Lakeside Resort Hotel (The long pier at the center of the photo) all the way to the SS Sicamous, at the far right, just before the river channel.
We will be using the park area to the right of the hotel on the photo below. We'll be just off the beach, on grass, directly across from the outdoor entertainment area and concessions.
Link to the Peach City Beach Cruise Home Page
Entry fee for the Beach Cruise is $30 Canadian ($30 US). Registration is for driver, passenger and vehicle.
The Saturday night buffet at the Lakeside Hotel, is not included in the basic registration price.
We will arrange an early meal time so we can cruise afterward. I would recommend including the cost of the meals when you register either online or by mail.
Registration includes free entertainment at Gyro Park all weekend, a Winery cruise/poker run on Friday afternoon, the Parade of Iron through the city Friday night, an evening show and shine Friday night, the car show Saturday and a Cruise on Saturday afternoon. Breakfast is available at a nominal cost on Saturday and Sunday. The award ceremony is at 11:00 AM Sunday, ending approximately 12:30.
Online registration will give our US friends a bit of a break on registration cost. They will accept checks for mail in pre-registration, or cash at the site. As per supersleuth Sue, US postage to Canada is 72 cents.
Poker Run Friday afternoon will be to 9 wineries and a pub in the Naramata area. First prize is a case of wine, second is 1/2 case.
***For the third year in a row, Fanatics have won the Wine Cruise. 2009 winners were Nathan and Bernie (xs-cash) from Edmonton
SSRFanatics Peter and Cindy (DRAGN) won the case of wine in 2008. Frank and Ann (frankmp) from Edmonton won the case of wine in 2007.
Reports from participants in the poker run are very positive. It's an all-day event - you can rush through, or stop anywhere along the way and enjoy some wine tasting, food or scenery. Several wineries, the Naramata Inn, and the Pub will have a lunch menu. Cards must be turned it at the SS Sicamous registration center by 5:00 PM

Hotels
The Lakeside Resort Hotel is a luxury hotel on the Beach. It has a pub, the Magnums restaurant indoors, a patio eating area, and the Hooded Merganser Restaurant built over the water. It also has a Casino.
If you check the photo of the hotel on the link below, the park area is just over top of the Hooded Merganser restaurant on the right, past the giant tree.
There are a lot of other motels/hotels available, some at lower cost. The motels along Lakeshore Drive are cnvenient, but most have already been fully booked for some time.
Les and Dona have offered the use of the common room at their Lakeshore condo across the street from Rotary Park.
Meet at 6 PM at Rotary Park at the tent. We have arranged for our SSRs to stay on the grass at Rotary overnight Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We will have security from 9 PM to 7 AM.
Registration - From 8 AM
Wine Cruise and Poker Run - All Day from 10 AM
Parade of Iron - Meet at 5:30, Roll-out at 6:30 PM
The Wine Cruise and Parade of Iron are really fun events. Strongly recommend that you do your best to take them both in. SSRs will be at the front of the parade this year to make access to the park easier.
Informal Car Show - Rotary Park
Dinner - Open night - lots of restaurants in the area, eat early during the wine cruise, later on Lakeshore, downtown, or at the Lakeside
See post #4 for a list of restaurants in the area.
Saturday June 26
Car Show from 9 AM. 700+ cars to check out, beer gardens, vendors and entertainment in Gyro Park across the street. Group Dinner at the Lakeside - purchase tickets with Beach Cruise registration - Dinner is scheduled to start at 5:30, but we need to be first in line. Arrival prior to 5:00 PM is recommended.
Winding Road Cruise - 6:30 PM
Return to Rotary Park or Cruise some more - 9 PM
Sunday June 27
Awards - 11 AM to 12:30 PM

Friday is an open day, so many opportunities to check out the local foods.
You can print this list by clicking on #3, then printing the single post.
Breakfast
Elite Restaurant - 340 Main St. old fashioned restaurant like every small town used to have. Last time we ate there, they still served milkshakes in the metal containers.
Shades on Main - 1909 Main St. short drive, very long walk - long time local breakfast favorite
Bear's Den - 950 Westminster - very handy for those staying at the Ramada, Sandman or Travelodge
Lakeside Patio- outside the front doors on the waterfront. On a nice day, can't beat it.
Lunch
Naramata Pub - part of the wine cruise, so you need to drop in to get your card validated for the poker run. Great place for a noon or early afternoon meal to tide you over till after the parade.
Barrel Room Bistro at Hillside Winery - one of the wineries on the cruise - good lunch meno.
Red Rooster Winery - on the wine cruise, good lunch menu on their outdoor patio. Stunning views of the Okanagan Valley. They have a very cool old pickup on the corner of the property for photo ops.
I would recommend continuing beyond the wineries and the pub into the town of Naramata.
Naramata Heritage Inn & Spa - 3625 - 1st St. - very old, restored hotel. The Cobblestone Wine Bar is a great setting for lunch.
Dinner
Hooded Merganser - over the water at the Lakeside. It will be very busy. I would recommend getting reservations if possible for groups of 6 - 8 people. Great food. The yam fries are a must. The hotel also has the Barking Parrot bar and Magnums, a more formal dining room.
We have reservations for Sunday night at the Hooded Merganser
Salty's Beach House - close to the Sicamous. Indoors, or upstairs, or on the patio. Great food, great attitude, really fun place to be. The best to watch Beach Cruise traffic.
Villa Rosa - 795 Westminster Avenue - excellent Italian menu
Mykonos - 329 Main St. Run by the same family forever. Pizzas, lasagna, greek dishes
Theos - 687 Main St. by far the most popular local hangout. Family run, excellent greek food
La Casa Ouzeria - 1090 Main St. short drive, long walk, Greek and Italian. Excellent food.
Lee's Overseas Delights - 139 Westminster Ave - two blocks up from the beach. Small, family run sushi, japanese and some chinese dishes. Cash only. We try to get there at least a couple times a month. Closes at 8 PM. The chicken teriyaki and salmon teriyaki boxes are great value.
Earl's - 1848 Main St. short drive, long walk - their clam chowder is excellent. Nice range of dishes.
Black Iron Grill and Steakhouse - 152 Riverside - on the Days Inn property. Haven't made it there yet, but very good reports on their steaks.
Dream Cafe - 67 Front St. On a very colorful old street, only a couple blocks from the beach. Quaint, small, very different, multi-cultural menu

Bear & Hawk
Great!!! We'll be providing two free registrations for the 2010 Beach Cruise, including Saturday supper, to Texas participants. Hopefully Fanatics who were here in 2007 and/or 2008 will be recruiting for the trek north.

If you can get a cheap return flight into Vegas from Austin, the best deals at this end are with Westjet which has regular Vegas/Kelowna flights.
The alternative is to look for United flights. They partner with Air Canada.
If it's significantly cheaper to fly into Vancouver, it's a very scenic four hours inland from a beautiful coastal city
Thanks, if I fly, it will be into Vancouver then...for simplistic reasons and rental car choices if anything.
So add Mrs. OP and I to the list...tentatively, I got a year to plan

Adding you to the list. When you're searching for airlines to Vancouver, keep Westjet (westjet.com) and United in mind.
Can you send me a PM with more details, including names and email address.?

Ray, Are passports required? You may have already said something about this but I can't find it....
Rather it is or not, we'll update ours after I return from that big state.
HI, Ray: Pat and I will be coming to the 2010 show.
John
I'll add you to the list.

I vote for Hellvis. Or.... you could fly in and drive Sig 23 home. Just think of the freight savings. and the fuel savings only going one way. It's the right thing to do for the environment.

Passports have been a requirement for some time for air and ship travel, and are now a requirement on both sides of the border for road travellers. They are talking about a "soft" phase in, but I can't imagine it will extend that long. I'll add that info to the first post.
