Cranberry Mansions
Tuesday June 25, 2013
8:30 am Leave the Sturbridge Host hotel and travel to Southern Coast of Mass.
You will have one 20 minute rest stop along the way.
10:45 am Take a BEHIND THE SCENES CRANBERRY BOG TOUR.
You are welcomed to the largest cranberry operation in the world at the height of the blossom season!
You will be greeted by an experienced grower who will step on your coach and take you out to the bogs so you can see the blossoms up close.
Each tour is given a history of cranberry making, find out how the cranberry got its name, see examples of existing bogs as well as learn about all aspects of cranberry growing.
It is possible that you can get out and step onto the bog yourself.
The guide also goes through the two different methods of harvesting.
Since it is near spring you might see the flowering vines and may even be able to see some bogs being planted.
The highlight of the tour will be to see and hear about the SPRING BOG POLLINATION by bees brought in to do the job!
There are 2 ˝ hives per acre and there are 2000 acres!
Did you know they hire bees, which get flown in and pollinate the bogs? The bees fly into their hives every night and then back out during the day to pollinate!
When they are done, all the bees get collected up and flown to some other place to start the pollination cycle all over again.
There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.
Overstuffed sandwiches of all kinds for lunch on your own at a Market Peace Farm located on the groups of the bog.
“The market offers a variety of items, including cranberry-themed gifts and foods, produce, crafts, and a full deli and bakery. The Market offers lunch daily and many fresh baked items for your group to enjoy.” Quote excerpted from internet site.

Another Bus
Looks like the bus trips are filling fast !!! ,..
Once we get over 55 people, I will order another bus..
Remember,.. seats are unlimited for now.
So sign up as early as possible so I can accomodate anyone that wants to go. The bus line is offering coaches first come first serve. It will get harder to get them after the first of the year.
WB
Include Margo & I on both bus tours. This is going to be so great. Now that the Keys run is over, now its time to get excited for the International gathering.
Hey Bill, sign JoAnn and Bruce up for the Boston Bus, please.
As I understand it I'm supposed to wait for the registration thingy on the other site before paying you?
