On the way back I'll be heading across lower Kansas - thru Dodge City into Colorado.

Pueblo/Colorado Springs then on Hwy 24 to Hwy 9 to Breckenridge/Frisco.

I-70 west to Utah then Hwy 50 into Nevada - Ely.

South from Ely on Hwy 6 to Tonopah and into California to Hwy 120.

Hwy 120 (Tioga Pass) over the Sierras thru Yosemite back to the Valley...

Life gets kind of all clogged up and boring with Marriotts, Hiltons, and Sheratons lined up one after another exactly like one another. Even if it means, once in a great while, you have to spend one troubled night saying repeatedly to yourself, "What was I thinking? What in hell did I do this for?"

I plan the same way, Vickie, although I haven't made reservations on the return trip yet. Don't know about the rest, although Keith has mentioned in other posts that he might take a different route home. I would love to do the Mother Road also (route 66), but time, time, time is calling the shots for me.

Oops ! ! Now have read Keith's latest post. He most definitely isn't returning the same way.

although I've been reading some lately that the community is trying to rebuild downtown and make it a much more inviting community....have lots of friends that live there and if it weren't for their job (Santa Fe) they wouldn't

My guess, Dan, is I'm sure they've covered themselves for that plan by raising the "extra plate" charge so high as to take away the financial advantage of doing so. Or just plain NOT ALLOWING IT.

I'm certainly not complaining (yet), but my apprehension stems more from a motel that doesn't answer its phone (answering machine), doesn't take credit cards (must pay in cash), reserves your room over the phone with a promise to call you the night before and see if you want to cancel ! !

On the plus side I can understand because . . . I grew up in a small town in Iowa that had an 8 unit motel and probably to this day does exactly the same thing ! ! The owner can't answer the phone because he's busy cleaning one of the rooms and credit card percentages deprive him of that little profit he can eek out at $40 per room to make a living. When he says he'll reserve your room he means it and would walk through the fires of hell before letting you be disappointed.

Just checking in with the left coast people going to Springfield. I will be arriving at Winslow at around 5 pm on Friday 6/8/07. I have reservations at the Holiday Inn express off exit 255 (816 Transcon Ave. 888-465-4329 ). It's a nice place and I was a little concerned about safe parking for the SSr at the other motel mentioned. It also has a nice indoor swimming pool. I hope to hook up with the other left coast people and the Arizona people there and continue on with you all to Ammarrilo.

I made reservations at the Big Texan Hotel for Sat. nite (800) 657-7177. I understand that most of you will be staying there. When I got my reservations today the hotel said they still have 22 rooms available for Saturday nite, but anyone iterested in staying there with the rest of us should get reservations in quickly.

Then Sunday morning it's off to Springfield. Anyway, lets make it a fun and SAFE week.

Also made our reservations for the Big Texan on Saturday night.

All right, I am concerned about my truck at night also. I yield. I've just reserved a room at the Holiday Inn Express for Friday nite also. My rate was $95, however, and when I questioned this and asked for the $82 rate, she said that was a NON-CANCELLABLE RATE ! ! Sooooooooo, I'm there for $95.

I'm not even sure I'm going ! ! ! I won't know until several days before the event. So the ability to be able to cancel WITHOUT PENALTY is paramount.

I know the feeling...first we were going, then Tim's mom was coming in, then she changed the date and we thought we could go again, now she's not sure when she'll be here...I give up...it would just be my luck that she'd call from the airport just as we leaving out the drive
