We finally made it back to California last Friday after we extended the Colorado Run up through Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone. It was a great trip and we met a lot of interesting folks, including a chance meeting with SSRFanatic 32revolver in Cody, Montana.
During the roughly 4,000 mile trip we noticed an engine temperature control issue starting to develop. On our leg from Park City to Las Vegas we got caught on a long grade which had been narrowed to 1 lane and was stop and go at over 105 degrees. I called Mike in AZ for advice and he told me to turn on the heater, yikes! We finally got a "engine coolant overheated" warning on the DIC and the A/C compressor shut off; the needle was on 260+. We just made it to the summit, scary. Mike figured it was the thermostat and I did too.
That night I Googled for Chevy Dealers in Las Vegas and wound up with a list of 4. The next morning I called around at 7:00am and found that Findlay Chevrolet had 1 thermostat left and that the rest of the dealers were seriously busy. So, I went over and met Wayne Smith, one of their service advisors, who gave our SSR a "Traveler" priority. I was in and out with a
new fan, the thermostat was fine, in about 2 hours with a wash job thrown in for good measure.
I just thought I'd let the "Vegas Mob" know that they have a very SSR friendly dealer in their town.
Thanks again Findlay Chevrolet.
