Day Run-Laughlin '08 to Oatman

Hey Gang,
Betty and I would like to take a day run over to Oatman. We looked at
their events for Jan 26, and thought
that the "Shot gun wedding" would be a Blast, so-to-speak. there are some
other activities that day, also.
Please use this link to see who and what they are.

Events in Oatman Arizona authentic western ghost town and mining camp

If you think you would be interested in renewing your Wedding Vows or
getting Married, Parson Tom IS an ordained minister and can perform these
Legit. I have asked some specific questions, and am awaiting the
particulars. If you would like to participate, there is a one-time charge
of $250 that
we can split up. (they will give us this as a group rate).

After browsing their site, you are interested in the Shot Gun Wedding,
please let me know. I'm gonna do it.
Maybe we can get a Group thing going.

This run would take place right after the Meet & Greet and we would have
to be back in time for the Banquet.

The cut-off date to participate is January 3, 2008.

OK, here's who is running with:

WearyEagle
VEGASSR ?

Fuji,
When I go to that link you provided, I see a Oatman Bed Race along with Chamber Pot Parade, Auction, Burro Calling and a Toilet Seat Toss contest but nothing about a Shot gun wedding for Jan 26th.
Guess I'm missing something.

Best experience I have with the today and a ride I'll never forget

OK... that's what I'm talkin' about.. we had that same experience coming out of Utah where the road was just cut off the top of the ridge. Sheer drop off both sides. Even busted some gal flashing her BF by the side of the road! Made a lot of noise so she knew she was Busted, so-to-speak.... It was a GREAT run down the road...

I'm sorry but Steve and I can't remember where it brings you out at. We do know that it does lead out to a major highway (one or two). This was our frist time ever in AZ.

What we can tell you is the road is amazing and well worth the drive..the GPS worked just fine in getting us through the mountain area.

That road east out of Oatman will take you to Christmas Tree pass, Gold Road mines (my dad worked these mines when he migrated from Tulsa west), and eventually into Kingman area depending on which fork you follow. It will tie back into old 66, I-40, 68, 93 and other small, unmarked, barely paved roads. Its difficult for me to tell ya how to get exactly where, I just know how to find it once I'm there. Problems of growing up in the area, who reads road signs HRG probably came back onto I-40 west of Kingman or 93/68 north of Kingman.

Depends on how many flash floods, snow run off, rain they've had...road is not regularly maintained...expect rocks and gravel

Yes....a very nice road....maybe some falling rocks. Steve and I didn't encounter any. There are signs stating that. Just outside of Oatman the road climbing the mountian was a little rough....just don't take it at excessive speeds and you'll be fine This is where most of the winding uphill run his.......take it slow and easy.... will be much more enjoyable.

Wish I could do it again

FWIW, I thought the trip to Oatman in '06 was more fun than the trip to the London Bridge in '07. Could be because I had never been to Oatman. The jackasses running wild, the old Western look and that gunfight that erupted were a kick in the a$$ for me.(did anybody ever figure out why these guys were so mad at each other ? )

Deb and I did the Oatman trip last year. They had the bed races going on, and there were at least 5,000 people in town. It was a lot of fun.

You need to park a ways away due to traffic and not getting your doors dinged by others.

We've never done this & I think it would be fun to do if we can deal with those 5,000+ bodies as Doug pointed out.

Sure is going to be a crazy weekend of SSR's, shotgun weddin', off-road racing, bed racing, toilerseat tossing, etc.....

It's not the 5,000 + bodies it's the donkeys you've got to worry about

If you have never done Oatman it is definitely worth the trip. Its close enough that you can go after the Show/Shine and get back in plenty of time for the banquet, plus its hard to get lost going or coming. I grew up in the area, before there was a Laughlin, Bullhead City, or a Lake Havasu City and have been to Oatman more times than I can possibly count...you all will definitely have a good time.
