Hey Colorado Fanatics

I've been planning routes and lookin' at maps getting ready for the trip to your state in July.
The plan so far is north to Utah, thru Zion and Bryce, then on to Grand Junction by Sunday the 4th. I'm real interested in route 50 heading south from there to Montrose, then east thru Gunnision and over Monarch Pass down to the rally HQ.
So, the question is, is this trip from Grand Junction to rally HQ do-able in a day? We would like to arrive in time for the get together, not be rolling in after dark.
Google maps says about 6 hours, not counting stops. That's OK, a good days drive.
Are we nuts for considering this?

Thanks for the advice
Don and Annie J

You have chosen an excellent route! That is some of the best scenery in the state. (esp. through Gunnison) I am showing about 300+/- miles from Grand Junction and about 6 hrs drive time. GJ to Gunnison is about 2.5 hrs so maybe lunch at Mario's? (my daughter highly recommends it!) Its on main street on the right.

We'll see you in July!

Hey Chuck,

Debbie and I are staying at the China Clipper in Ouray on the 3rd and 4th. Bob (Bad Bob) and Gloria are going to be staying there too. Gonna be some great fireworks.

We'll be traveling across Monument Valley from Flagstaff (spending Friday nite there) to get into Ouray Saturday afternoon.

Regards,

Mike

This could get to be good!

When we have traveled in the past, we exchanged phone numbers before departure. This looks like another opportunity for an impromptu caravan.....

We will be getting to the Cheyenne Mountain Resort on the 4th.
Anybody know if there are fireworks celebrations at the resort or nearby?
Of course, we will be a little tired from our 2 day road trip from IL, so we probably won't want to drive very far.

Chuck,

Yes, it's starting to look that way.... There will be two and a coming through Montrose from Ouray about 9:15. We're gonna take hwy 50 across to Penrose and then 115 to Colorado Springs. We're scheduling a leg stretch (potty stop) in Gunnison and a nice lunch in Salida. Should get us into Colorado Springs about 3:30 or so.

My boss has a condo in Crested Butte. Deb and I stayed there last summer for a couple of days. Really good place to eat in Gunnison at a place called Garlic Mike's. In Salida there is a place called Two Sisters both places were great

We have to get Chuck Styles to be in the caravan and keep the reds apart.... otherwise they'll start mating.

Here's what it looks like......

We might tag along.. not sure.

At the moment we are trying to make an emergency trip to Boston again. Our friend Chris is not doing well. The breast cancer has attacked her brain... She has been having seizures so they have put her in the hospital with a dedicated nurse in her room 24/7. We are focusing on her at the moment.

I may be gone until the 25 of this month. I will start planning Colorado after I get back.

PLEASE everybody, keep her in your prayers. She can use ALL the help she can get!!!

Love to have you along, Bruce.....

Right now, you need to be strong for Chris. That's what she needs and you know how to do it.

Smokey & BlueSSR

have managed to secure a room too at the China Clipper. Couldn't get king size bed -- but we'll make do! Sounds like fun.

I'll try and talk Smokey into Flagstaff on Friday night too.
