October 2nd Cruise Against Cancer

Sorry for the short notice. This is intended to be a spontaneous National Event.....

October 2nd is being celebrated as "Livestrong Day" by the Lance Armstrong Foundation. That's a Friday.... about 10 days from now.

We (the Phoenix Fanatics) are going to celebrate with a Friday evening dinner at a nice local outdoor restaurant and an after-dinner cruise with the fog lights on. The intention here is to have all of the SSR Family go out and cruise on the evening of October 2nd. The evening will be dedicated to all of our SSR family that has, is or will battle cancer. I've contacted the Lance Armstrong Foundation for a pile of yellow wrist bands to be given in exchange for a donation that night. The proceeds will be sent on behalf of the gathered SSR Fanatics to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. I've worked a deal with the local restaurant to donate a portion of all of our food bills to the same.

I'm posting this on the National Events forum in hopes that it will carry across the country and mobilize the SSR Family to collectively go out to dinner on the same nite and Cruise this country against cancer. You can get yellow wrist bands from lots of locations, including Dick's Sporting Goods and the lance Armstrong Foundation. They will be happy to ship some to you.

If you decide to have a gathering, please feel free to follow the links on the attached fliers to the Livestrong Action group. They have a pin-map of all the local events, nation-wide. They will also register your event and provide support.

Sorry for the lack of planning...... it was really a last minute request to me and I'm trying to mobilize a movement with short notice. We can do this.......

There will be a thread on the Southwest Forum for the Arizona SSR Fanatics to jump into and sign up.

I am encouraging everyone on the forum to gather together in whatever group you can (large or small makes no difference) and go have a Friday night Cruise Against Cancer.

Thanks,

Mike

Challenged!

Hey, you SoCal Fanatics!! This is your (friendly) challenge to beat the AZ group - can you gather more Fanatics to celebrate and contribute to this worthy endeavor?

Guess I'm gonna have to wipe the bugs off of Hellvis from the Texas Rally.....he's been in storage for three months (too dang hot).

Thumper and I would be proud to be there, AND beat the pants off of the Cal, Nevada AND Texas members.....as usual.....

Just so you know, while we might be a week behind, the Barstow Car Show on 10/10 is a "Cruise for the Cure". Its an annual event in support of breast cancer research put on by the Apple Valley Over the Hill Gang. I will gladly make an additional donation if we can't make a SoCal event elsewhere on 10/2.

Good cause guys, I hope you double the expected SSRs

I will be speaking about cancer at a local school in the morning then doing a beat cancer skydiving fund raiser in the afternoon (and through out the weekend). I will be driving my SSR and if anyone in this area wants to cruise against cancer in the evening, count me in.
Seems to me we should be able to beat the pipes off the SOCal bunch!

Good question...I broke my ankle (6 Spd) and just returned to Vegas. Being of such a short notice it will probably be difficult to arrange. I will post it on the Pacific site and we will see what happens! If no one from the Mob shows we still look forward to seeing you ALL up here for SEMA. Great cause....

Thanks Mike - this is always a good cause.......

I have contacted all of my Northwest SSR FANTASTICS to see if someone will head an event for Oct. 2. My SSR will be wearing its beautiful "Tickled Pink" Car Cover while I have recover from back surgery on the 30th. Can drive, but not walk !!!!

Might this become an annual event for our SSRs all over the world?

Jamie, are you going to be local or in Phoenix?
