This is the official Information Thread for the Route 66 International SSR Rally to be held in Flagstaff, AZ from Monday, September 05 - Friday, September 09, 2011!

The main venue for the 2011 Rally is:

The $ 99.00 per night group rate will be available three nights prior to and three nights after the official Rally dates, based on availability. The cutoff date for the group rate is Friday, August 12, 2011!!!!!


There will be a Meet and Greet in the west Hotel parking lot from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Monday, September 5th complete with hotel registration in the parking lot from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and a walk up bar. Those arriving prior to or after these hours may register in the Hotel lobby.

The Hotel has reserved the entire west parking lot for our SSR's, with no "drive through" traffic, so they should be as secure as is possible in a hotel!

Departure times for these tours will be at 10:00 am. I will be providing you with a map of where to park. I have to have your confirmation for this trip by September 1, 2011. I will then be giving out departure times shortly thereafter.

Scenic Rim Tour-Ascend an amazing 1,500 to 2,000 feet above Sedona towards the top of the Mogollon Rim, also known as the Colorado Plateau. Majestic red rock formations blaze the trail or scenic beauty and exciting exploration. This tour offers a dramatic vantage point for sightseers and is a photographer's dream-come-true. This tour does go on unpaved roads so it is a little bumpy.

It's Grand Canyon Day! And we are going to the Canyon on the Train. Grand Canyon Railway - The Official Site

Grand Canyon Railway departs daily at 9:30 a.m. from Williams, Arizona, about 30 miles west of Flagstaff just off Interstate 40. The train travels almost due north to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, arriving at 11:45 a.m.. The trip measures 65 miles and takes 2 hours and 15 minutes each way, 45 minutes faster than in 1901 when the train made its first trip. The train departs Grand Canyon Depot at 3:30 p.m. returning to Williams Depot at 5:45 p.m
Please arrive no later than 30 minutes before departure.

We have a special rate of $71.26. This includes national park entrance fee, taxes and gratuities. We also receive a 20% discount at the gift shop if you wish to purchase drinks or snacks. This is Coach seating.
I have to have your confirmation for this trip by July 1, 2011.

Alternative Destinations

I have put together various other scenic adventures/options you can do to make your stay as awesome as possible. So if you have extra time with nothing to do check these out! I will also have maps to these included in your registration packet. These have NOT been planned as a group...so you're on your own!

First off-By special request....
Arizona, Cliff Castle Casino Hotel, Family Fun, Entertainment, Gaming, Food, Storytellers, Dragonfly Lounge, Stargazer Pavilion
This is the closest casino to Flagstaff, just a short 59 miles from Little America.

While you're in the area, you can stop by and visit Montezuma Castle National Monument. Montezuma Castle National Monument (U.S. National Park Service)
This is in the same area as the casino. Entrance fee to the park is $5.00 and they are open 8:00 am. to 5:00 pm.
Montezuma Well is just down the road. This is just a short stop with no fee.

And if you want to get in touch with your wild side there is Out of Africa Wildlife Park.

Ticket prices range from $26.00 to $36.00. Hours are from 9:30 am. to 5:00 pm. Please check their website for the different ticket prices.

Verde Canyon Railway-This is about a 1.5 hour drive south of Little America. Depending on which road you take.

Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village
Our world famous Fanatic members Duane and Elaine Morgan (Bigwave) have their store in Tlaquepaque. So stop by the Eclectic Image Gallery and see their beautiful works of art. There are also restaurants in the village in case you get hungry.
Tlaquepaque shopping Sedona Arizona, arts and crafts village, galleries, attractions.

Outlet Stores- These are located just 7 miles south of Tlaquepaque.

Jerome, AZ 60 miles from Little America
Tourism Information for Jerome Arizona, the Mile High Town with 50 Mile Views
This is a great old mining town. Lots of quaint old shops, restaurants, museum and an old mine. There is also a haunted stop in Jerome in case you're into that sort of thing. Great views.

If you're into the Route 66... Take the drive to Hackberry. This is on Route 66 taking you about 140 miles from Little America. There is a store and a museum in Hackberry. Check out their website for all their information.

If you're traveling west of Flagstaff you can stop at the Grand Canyon Caverns. Grand Canyon Caverns
Tours are $14.95 departing every half hour. They do offer discounts for AAA and AARP. I have been to these caverns before and they are very interesting.

If you're in Flagstaff and don't want to travel too far there is the Lowell Observatory.Lowell Observatory
This is less than 10 minutes from Little America. Price is $8.00.
Hours are Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat 9:00 am-9:30 pm
Tue/Thur/Sun 9:00 am-5:00 pm

Located on San Francisco Peaks just 14 miles north of Flagstaff is
Arizona Snowbowl - Flagstaff's ski area is a great place to escape the summer heat
The ski lift is only open on the weekends. So if you're staying on a little longer this might be a great option.

Grand Canyon on your own. Grand Canyon National Park (U.S. National Park Service)
Park entrance fee is $25.00 per vehicle. There is limited parking. It is 80 miles north of the Little America Hotel.

Wupatki National Monument and Sunset Crater

Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument (U.S. National Park Service) 20 miles north of Little America
Entrance fee is $5.00 and is good for both parks.
Parks hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

I think out of all the canyons in the area this is my favorite. It should be just awesome if the leaves are changing at the time.
Fee is $5.00 per person Hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Meteor Crater-41 miles east of Little America
Meteor Crater
Fee is $15.00 and $14.00 for seniors which includes a guided 1/2 mile hike and the theater showing the movie "Collisions and Impacts". Closed toed shoes are required for the rim tour.

Mormon Lake is a great destination to view the beautiful mountains. Mormon Lake Lodge has a general store and a great steakhouse. Stop in and grab some grub!

I think this is also a great scenic run to drive from Little America to Mormon Lake. If you wish to go to Mormon Lake and are driving at night please be on high alert for deer or elk crossing the road.

Hoover Dam
This is a great thing to see if you're in the area. Here's the link which will give you all the information (traffic, tickets for tours, parking, etc)

SEDONA CAR SHOW IN THE ROCKS

Route 66 International SSR Rally Sedona Car Show in the Rocks

Thursday September 8th from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM
Bell Plaza Shopping Center at 10 Bell Rock Plaza


Here is how it will work;

Nancy and her team will form up the SSR
Caravan in the parking lot of Little America at 7:30 with departure at
8:00AM, the caravan will proceed from Flagstaff to Sedona
via the Scenic Oak Creek Canyon, with a stop at the Canyon Overview State Park.

Once at Bell Plaza the SSR’s will be welcomed in the parking lot which is
nestled in a beautiful Red Rocks setting. Judging for the show and shine
will take place from 9:30 to Noon with Sponsorship and Corporate awards
awarded at 1:00 PM

Fanatics will be free to enjoy the sights and attractions in the Sedona area,
before the Banquet that night. There will be representatives of featured
attractions at the show. Complete information on suggested routes
back to Flagstaff and what to do in the area will be included, in the Car Show Packet.
