Announcing
The Springfield Challenge

What it is:
This Challenge is designed to inspire groups of SSR Fanatics to visit as many of the Springfields located in the United States of America and Canada in the year before the 2015 International SSR Rally in Springfield, IL as possible.

How it works:
1. Pick a Springfield. A “Springfield” can be a city, town, village or other municipal entity. East, West, North and South Springfield’s are also eligible.
2. Pick a date, time and location that will meet the requirements of Rule #7 below.
3. Announce your event in this Challenge thread so others can join you. An “event” is described in Rule #1 below.
4. Have fun. Combine the event with meals, sightseeing, bowling, golf or a local car show.
5. Take a picture.
6. Post the picture in this Challenge thread with the info required in Rule #7 below.

Timeframe:
This Challenge will be open for events from the time of this announcement until Monday, September 21, 2015. Photos of events may be posted until Tuesday, September 22, 2015.

The winner of The Springfield Challenge will be announced at the 2015 International SSR Rally banquet.

Rules:
1. A Springfield Challenge event is defined as a gathering of SSR Fanatics in any Springfield. Many of which are listed in Post #2. A minimum of 2 SSRs (actual trucks) constitutes an event. There is no maximum limit.

2. Registration will be by truck. A truck may be known by it’s name or the Screen Name of it’s owner(s).

3. One truck will earn 2 points at an event with it’s owner(s); an owner attending without a truck will earn 1 point.

4. Multi-truck owners may designate one truck to accumulate points for any of their trucks attending an event or may have each truck considered separately.

5. In no case shall any truck be awarded more than 2 points for any event or any location.

6. For points to be credited people must have photographic proof posted in this Challenge thread on SSRFanatic.com.

7. Post in what State & County or Province & Parish the Springfield event occurred. Acceptable proof will include: One or more photos from the event, which must contain a minimum of two trucks, recognizable landmarks or signs, the participants (with their screen names listed in the post) in such a manner that it proves all were there. Examples of landmarks are: Post Office, City Hall, Library or other buildings with “Springfield” on them, City or Town limit signs, etc. The participant taking the photo will be counted. (edited 12/4/14 to indicate flexibility)

8. Each truck may only count any Springfield once but are encouraged to attend any event available. A truck may attend a new event in a Springfield they already have credit for to meet the two truck minimum for another member but will not receive additional credit.

9. All members attending the 2015 International SSR Rally in Springfield, IL will automatically be entered for Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois.

Scoring:
The Challenge Winner will be determined to be the SSR which has accumulated the most points by attending Springfield Challenge events.

We will attempt to keep the standings updated in Post 3 of this Challenge Thread.

Tie Breakers:
First Tie breaker will be cumulative straight line mileage from the trucks home zip code to the various events, as determined by Distance calculator, divided by the total number of events attended by the truck or it’s owner(s).

Second Tie breaker will be a drawing from all mileage winners that are tied.

Thanks, I grew up in Emporia, I worked on the survey party for the Santa Fe Railroad. We surveyed the route for the main reactor vessel for the Wolf Creek Power Plant. The Santa Fe transported the reactor from the Port of Catoosa, OK to Independence, KS. The Missouri Pacific transported from Independence, KS to the power plant site. Remind me in Santa Fe and I will share some stories about that project. We intend to try to find Springfield, Ks on our way to RRR. We also will stop at Springfield, CO on the way (I know where it is US 160 west a few miles). We also are going to stop in Springfield, MO on the way back to Parkville, MO (KC area).

Anyone want to help me set up a Springfield Challenge for here in Louisville Ky. We have a lot to offer...
Lousville Slugger Museum and factory tour.
Churchill Downs Museum
The Belle Of Louisville
Frazier History Museum
Louisville Slugger Field
Farmington
Churchill Downs track (when meet is running)
Horseshoe Casino
Kentucky Kingdom
And if people want to do a short drive there are the Bourbon Tours in Bardstown Ky.
Huber Farms and Winery
So if anyone local wants to help set this up, I am willing.

We know the weather is changing and the chances of a Springfield Challenge during the cold and nasty weather of Fall and Winter is slim. However, we have high hopes that you will spend this time to reasearch and plan for Springfield Challenge Events as the weather improves. We will be here monitoring this thread to answer questions and clarify rules to help all who participate. We will be waiting to see those pictures and tally the points so we can present an award to the winner at the Springfield Rally in September 2015.

What you can do is decide where (which Springfield) you want to meet and post here indicating your intentions and ask who would like to join in, or just say when you will be there and hope others show up. The first is likely to be the best idea since you can then coordinate, before you hit the road, as far as time and exact locations. I am sure we will see more interest as the International Rally in Springfield, IL get closer and the weather gets more in line with our trucks.

Keep those questions coming.

Explanation of rules & Promo

We have spent a bit of time considering our Rules regarding proof of participation in a Springfield Challenge event. We want to clarify things by stating that we really do trust the Fanatic Family and therefore, an example of proof might be something like:

A picture of all participants in front of City Hall, or a City Limits sign, or a Springfield Fountain window, etc. and a picture of the participants and their trucks lined up in a parking lot, along with a list of which participants are there with their truck and which are their without their truck in order to get the points allocation correct. We really want this to be simple and fun. Help in making it simple. We also need help in making it easy to score so we can also have a good time at the International Rally and not spend all our time trying to determine a winner.

Since we are a week into 2015 we are less than 8.5 months from the start of the Springfield International Rally . Now is the time to begin planning for your Springtime runs, and how you can include a Springfield Challenge event as part of the festivities.

Remember, post it in this thread and post the pictures here as well. All the Rules are in Post #1.

Happy New Year to all and see you in Springfield, Illinois (and maybe some of the others as well).

We know many of you are digging out of blizzard conditions, or just staying home and relaxing while the world turns white and frozen.
Remember that this to shall end and when it does there is a chance to get together with other Fanatics and visit Springfield. Any Springfield will do as long as there are at least two SSRs on the run. If you arre planning one of these events post it in this thread and then post the list of who was there and who broght their SSR. Show the pictures to prove it and maybe you will be the winner at the Springfield International SSR Rally. in September.
Start planning now. The rules are in Post one on theis thread.

I am beginning to plan my trip to the Springfield Rally in September. I am planning on leaving in July so if anyone is planning a SPRINGFIELD CHALLENGE let me know because, as many of you know, I do not go by the most direct route and I may be able to join your event.

Texas started it and now the rest need to play catch up. All the rules are in Post 1 and if you have questions just ask. We want this to be FUN and we hope it will add to the anticipation of the Springfield SSR Rally 2015. All we ask is that you post your names and pictures here so we can do keep the tally up to date and not be swamped when we get to Springfield, IL and want to participate with everyone else.

Colorado Springfield Challenge

Thinking I need to kick start this game. I will be traveling to Colorado in July for a wedding but I checked and there is a Springfield in Colorado. Since I will be leaving Golden on Sunday July 26 i though i might go through Springfield, CO which MapQuest sets as 4.5 hours, give or take, and i thought that I might stop for lunch and meet up with, or run with, any one from the Denver/Colorado Springs/Pueblo area and make it a Springfield Challenge Event where anyone could earn a point or two just by showing up, as long as we get at least two trucks (I will be driving mine so we only need one more) in attendance. I figure I need to leave right after lunch because I want to stop for the night in Dodge City KS so I can meet the KS and MO group in Springfield MO on July 28 or 29. Other events could be in AR (8/1) and FL (8/2). and then leading up to, or after Grandma's BBQ maybe in GA, KY and TN. Any others in the area I missed?

At a quick glance it looks like I can make a different Springfield Challenge event for each day or two of my trip from Golden to Orlando if I can get the locals to come out and earn points. I will be one of the trucks for each event BUT as the sponsor of the whole SPRINGFIELD CHALLENGE I will NOT be competing for points. I will only be there to meet Fanatics and make sure that if even one other truck shows up points will be awarded.

Is anyone interested in any of these events?
The rules are posted in the Post #1 in this thread.

All participants will receive a patch. The patches and trophy will be awarded at the Springfield Rally (winners need not be present) patches will be mailed (after the event) to participants who do not attend the International Rally.

As stated above and in the Rocky Mountain Forum, I will be traveling from Golden, CO to Dodge City, KS on Sunday July 26 and plan to stop in Springfield, CO to facilitate a Springfield challenge event. I have no idea what is there as, to me, it is only a dot on a map. If anyone has any ideas to make this more of an event, like where to have lunch, where to meet up, please post it here. I am going through and thought it would be an opportunity to see people who may or may not attend the Rally in IL in September. if any one arrives in an SSR then we will have to and points will be awarded as indicated in the rules in Post one of this thread. Hope to see some SSRs there. Please make note here if you are planning to be there or have suggestions. We have a few days to make this happen.

I will be in Springfield, MO on Monday evening and leaving Wednesday morning and would love to get together with SSRs for a Springfield Challenge while I am there.

If you are interested, post here and we will make it work. You can also PM me with a cell number I can call to talk about it
