Hold your breath . . . cross your fingers . . .
. . . Just came back from the high desert this afternoon. Went through the Escondido Pass (Acton) and it was starting to sprinkle. It was 40 degrees at 1:30 sooooooooooooo, I'm guessing there'll be some "snow flurries" on the Escondido Pass as well as the Tehachapi Pass tonight and into the morning.
Traffic was thick on the 14 freeway as all I-5 traffic is being diverted to the 58 over to the 14 (or vice a versa depending on which direction you're going ) because the grapevine has been shutdown all day.
I located some "cable" chains for the SSR this morning. They meet the SAE class "S" standard for reduced clearance installations. I did a "test fit" of the chains on the SSR this morning. They seem to clear everything as the rear wheels turn.
I'm hoping that the roads near Tehachapi will only have rain on them around 3:00 PM Friday so I don't actually have to "chain up".
I still can't believe you are trying to put chains on the "R". Buttttttttttt, if you must, Tehachapi does not do a chain requirement. They will simply lock the gates on the on ramps and shut it down. Been here 17 years and it has not been anything different. It is snowing pretty good right now. If the road is shut down, we will have to wait till it gets reopened. We will all get to Laughlin one time or the other. Just want everyone to be SAFE

Looks like you got here or your SSR did anyway since I parked next to it, I think.
I left Logan's Roadhouse (I-15 at Baseline) at 1:00 PM and was in Laughlin at 4:20 PM there was snow on the ground at Cajon Summit but not on the roadway and I had no rain on the trip, though there was a lot of water on the road so it was probably just in front of me at times.
Drive carefully and we will see you all when you get here tomorrow.

I don't want to use chains, but I want to have that option available to me. This morning the CHP was stopping traffic on I-80 at Applegate to confirm you were carrying chains (not chaining up at that level just yet).

From Owner's Manual:
Your vehicle has a Traction Control System (TCS) that
limits wheel spin. This is especially useful in slippery
road conditions. The system operates only if it senses
that one or both of the rear wheels are spinning or
beginning to lose traction. When this happens,
the system reduces engine power and may also upshift
the transmission to limit wheel spin.
This correct it also work in conjunction with the ABS
The owner's Manual says NOTHING about the TCS applying brakes.
This is the function of the ABS each wheel has a speed sensor and the wheel that is out of place has to behave or the master controler will not give a drink of brake fluid for the trip.
So, in short your vehicle has a lot of tender loving care not to hurt you or the SSR.
58 still open but it's snowing. Over crowded by 5 closure it will probably be a slow go up and down the mountain. See everyone soon and just don't trust the other guy When in doubt 1-800-GASROAD.
