Can't make it Saturday but will be coming on Sunday. Bonnie and I are looking forward to this run as we saw the pictures from last year and it looked awesome.

Hey Peeps,..

What happened to everyone???
Time is getting closer and it got real quiet in here!!!

Red cant stop talking about this event, she's packed and ready to go.
She is just as excited about this event as our trips to Disney, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico. If I knew that, I would have bought the "R" sooner and saved a ton of money

Lets REV IT UP ! and get this Started

Maybe we'll draw more folks in with excitement

It hasn't been as quiet in the background. I had 2 cancellations via PM and I've been starting to put together the things I'll need for the Sunday lunch at Poole Forge.

But, this is still a good sized group -- and a lot of new faces to get to know. Lets cross our collective fingers for some great weather again this year like we had last year.

Sandy and I will be there... we're just not sure if it will be both days or not. Sooo many things going on! But we'll be there Saturday for sure!

BTW... for all those into haunted houses and such... there is a REALLY cool Haunted Hayride with two other haunted houses down near Lancaster called Field of Screams (FIELD OF SCREAMS...AMERICAS #1 HAUNTED ATTRACTION - Haunted Hayride - Haunted Houses - Entertainment!!!)... if anyone is interested in a side trip, it could be fun!

See you all soon!

Way way way long ago, there used to be a haunted house thing called "Scream In The Dark". They had an indoor maze built into a barn. It was pitch black inside and they had all these rooms and cubby holes with stuff to frighten you. There was always a major crowd to get in (hundreds of people). Insurance/liability issues finally doomed it.

We've been to Field of Screams a few times and it's a hoot... but you do need to get there by 5pm otherwise you're toast due to the crowds. Given that, and everything Doug has planned, probably no time to go... besides, we'll be having too much fun with our SSR buddies... but if someone gets in Friday and wants to check it out, it's well worth it!

Weekend Itinerary

I figured I'd post the events in one thread to get it all in one place and recent enough so everybody knows whats going on.

Friday - Meet and Greet
  • Arrival in Ephrata at Doneckers. I'll be checking in early (3PM is the earliest) to greet folks as they arrive. There is limited wireless internet access on site, so we can still join in to "Weekend Live" (I did last year).
  • Dinner at 8PM at Piero's Restaurant

Saturday - Chocolate/Candy Tour
  • Meet about 9:30AM in York at Stauffers Cookie Company outlet parking lot. Caravan as a group from Ephrata to York to meet the others.
  • Hit the road at 10AM to begin the tour
  • Lunch in Lititz
  • Continue tour
  • Dinner at Doug and Margo's (RaticalSSR) place (exact time TBD)

Sunday - Covered Bridge Tour
  • Meet about 9:30AM at the Sheetz (1699 Oregon Pike, Lancaster PA, 17601 for GPS users) on PA route 272 and US Rt 30 interchange. Caravan from Ephrata south on route 272 to the Sheetz.
  • Hit the road at about 10AM to begin the tour
  • Lunch at Historic Poole Forge - I'll be supplying the burgers and dogs for the BBQ. I have the pavilion is reserved.
  • Continue tour
  • Dinner plans undetermined. I realize that many will be heading home straight from the tour. Those of us left can figure out what to do.

Monday - Columbus Day
Free form. I've tendered the idea of heading south to Strasburg to visit the railroad museum and ride the Strasburg Railroad ("The Road To Paradise").

Last minute = not easy

I am finding most of the hotels are booked but I'm still looking.
Booked a room - Comfort Inn - Columbia, PA (Between York & Lancaster)
I am planning on coming down Friday and doing the chocolate run on Saturday.
I will be bringing my 8 year old son Jonathan with me.
We will be doing the train things on Sunday.

You're now on the list!

It's crazy around Lancaster this time of year. That hotel is just down the hill from my mom's house. You're in great position to head over to the cookie company on Saturday morning (about 20 minutes) to meet up with everybody.

Friday nite

For those who will be attending for the first time. Fri nite at Piero's.
Park next door to the restrauant. This will be on the north side, towards Ephrata. That way we don't have to worry who parks next to our 's

I've heard the town's name pronounced in many different ways but never seen it spelled quite like that.
Not even sure how you even pronounce it that way. Anyway the correct spelling is --EPHRATA
See you Frydae
