2011 Chocolate and Covered Bridge Run

Well, it's darn near that time of year again. October is just around the corner and that means SSRs cruising through South Central PA, Chocolate, and covered bridges!

Mark your calendars - Friday October 7th through Monday the 10th (Columbus day US/Thanksgiving Canada).

Doug and I have talked about what we're going to do this year. We want to try something different this year that gives us more time to hang out and less time driving around.

Friday - Meet & Eat... um greet!

For those coming in even earlier, the AACA Hershey Fall Meet will be in full swing.
Hershey Region AACA: Fall Meet

We may have another activity coming up as well.

Saturday - A combined Chocolate and Bridge run

We'll start in York as we normally do, but rather than focus only on going from shop to shop, we'll be visiting bridges in between, ending the day in Lititz. For those that can or want to do only one day, this will be the one to choose.

Choclate/candy shops on the tour:
  • Stauffers Cookie Company - York
  • Wolfgang Candies - York
  • Wertz Candies - Brickerville
  • Wilbur Chocolate - Lititz

Meeting and starting point for Saturday.

As usual, we will meet up at the Stauffers Cookie Company parking lot in front of the outlet store roughly 9AM. They will be open and they do have restrooms. The address is:
360 S BELMONT ST, York, PA 17405

Sunday - (this is where it gets different). Leisure day.

Doug and I talked about this and we both agreed that for some folks, driving for hours to get to PA, then driving for hours both Saturday and Sunday, then driving even more hours to get home is simply too exhausting (excuse the pun). So, for Sunday I was thinking of a few things that we could do as a group that wouldn't require much driving.

So, we've come up with a few options.
  1. The tried and true ride on the Strasburg Railroad and visit to the Railroad Museum of PA. Can't forget the "Choo Choo Barn" either... haven't been there in looooong time.
  2. Drive to Middletown to ride the Middletown and Hummelstown railroad up the Swatarra creek followed by Indian Echo Caverns.
  3. Visit the Landis Valley Farm Museum
  4. A combination of the above items (though option 2 with either 1 or 3 would be difficult)

Of course, I would have to take us over a few bridges on the way to any of these locations.

Meeting and starting point for Sunday.
Ephrata Walmart parking lot
890 E Main St Ephrata, PA 17522

It's directly off the US322 Ephrata exit from US 222 (no exit #).

Monday

Doug has arranged a tour of the Harley Davidson plant in York. If you're still hanging around on Monday, please post up if you want to go.

Meg In Carolina

Hi Meg ...

I can tell you from a participant point of view... This event is perfect for the SSR experience...

You cruz thru a countryside filled with farms and smooth roads.
Often there will be Amish family trotting down the road in thier black buggys. Each bridge is unique. The sound of your tires hit each board with a clap.
And The Chocolite???,.... The BEST !!

Kevin and Doug lead rides and assemble tours and gatherings with seamless transitions. All that attend are awesome,.. You WILL feel welcome from the first Fanatic to the last goodbye.

The only downside to this event is that it ends,.. before you know it you are heading home with nothing but great memories, a million pictures, and a longing for your next gathering.

Cori and I cant make this years Choc/Bridge run because we have reservations in Key West this year. We didnt think about the date until after booking.

Great times with Great People.... Go for it!!

Question is..... the Mini or Mustang. SSR is about 1000+m. South.
