4.10 gears
It finally is happening... After some delays and scheduling issues the SSR is getting 4.10 gears installed. It is a 05 six speed and I'm hoping it will improve the bottom end performance. The present performance is not terrible it just seems that 4.10 gears should have been the factory set-up.
I should have it on the road by Tuesday or Wednesday...less any further delays.
I will be at the car show on October 18th at Oasis Chevrolet in Old Bridge NJ ,but I will be out of NJ on Saturday the 17th. Soccer game at the grandson's college in Pa.

I'll 2nd the What brand of gears question?
Some on here have said American Gears makes a good gear. If I am remembering correctely I think the gears were $200 (plus install). I talked with a guy this weekend at the Ocean City, MD car show and he said he got GM 410 rears and they were $1100 retail and he paid $800. I'm still in homework mode on mine (and waiting to get back the $500/week paycut I have taken at my job!!) to see exactly what I'm gonna do (have considered supercharger or twin exhaust turbo, but I'm told twin exhaust turbo will be too much power for stock pistons and tranny will not take it.... Anyhow, very sorry for the highjack, one question leads to another whenever I start talking about performance upgrades.
Thanks,
PUG

Not a hijack, legit question(s).
At our local dealer, factory 4-10s are on back order until the end of time.
I remember someone on the site here actually ordered a complete rear axle assembly for the trailblazer SS (they came with the 4.10 stock!). Was about the same price as buying the GM gears and paying someone to install them.

Those are automatic tranny=10 bolt. 8.5
6- speeds are 14bolt. 9.5

The gears were purchased from Summit Racing. They are Motive Gears and cost $199.95 for part # MGR-GM9-5-410.
My SSR is a 2005 six speed and you are right, the rear is 14 bolt and 9.5" I also researched this on our forum and decided to go with the Motive Gear ring and pinion set.
I'll post the results of the installation this week....

I guess I will soon know how noisy they are....we have a good bit of experience installing gears and setting pinion angles and making the gears mesh quietly. But thanks for the input. Will let you know.

This is why I love the feedback on this forum. I have some time to research right now (see previously mentioned paycut in earlier post) But I understand the gears will run about $200 and the install (I'm also looking for any and all advice for a TRUSTED installer near Shippensburg/Carlisle PA) should run about $700 - $800. So basically I'm looking at $1000 to get it done....paycut or not, it's gonna get the best of me very soon to get it done. Especially since we are slowly getting a little more business
No way I have the tools and know how to do it myself ( I considered this for awhile but several others mentioned the precision needed...I'm letting a pro do this!!) Anyhow interested in hearing feedback on gear noise, or if it is popular opinion as previously mentioned, that installation is the factor...not who makes the gear. I have read many positives here about American Gear.
Again I would love to hear from anyone who can recommend someone near me for the install. I have heard a place called "Marks" near Hanover, PA is good.
Thanks to all for the great info,
PUG

The 4.10 gears are in and I will test drive it later this afternoon (weather is lousy). We did run it on the lift and drove it around the shop...but I want to give it a good run. We also dropped in a K&N replacement filter element and a Flowmaster exhaust. Sounds really good. Will update later today.
So far the car show is still on for Sunday (rain,rain,rain..)

The 4.10 gears are great. It's like waking up the beast. Now for a good tune. Thanks for all the input and experience of our members on this great forum.
