Ernie Davis (Finger Lakes)

A select few of you (or maybe more) will appreciate this:

A very touching story about Ernie Davis was featured on Football Tonight (DirecTV). I had never heard of Ernie Davis until this weekend's Finger Lakes run, and now have "the rest of the story". It was a very moving tribute to a Syracuse player who left us WAY too early (he passed away in 1963 after a 10-month battle with leukemia).

I went to high school in Elmira,n.y. I went to southside high and Ernie Davis
went to Elmira free academy, the other high school there .We were in school the same years! I played football, basketball and every year he played they beat us!
He was the greatest sports figure to ever come out of Elmira!!! He went to
syracuse and won the Hiesman trophy!! We followed his every step.
He was drafted by Cleveland and was going to play in the backfield with
Jim Brown. I think it would have been the greatest backfield in the history of the NFL. He died of leukemia, the same year he gratuated and we never got to see them!! What a show it would have been!!
My wife worked with his Mother,it was a wonderful family!!
A very sad ending to a great story!!
I would have liked to see the movie!!

Thumbs up Ernie Davis

The movie about Ernie Davis was filmed in Elmira and Syracuse over the last year.

It is called "The Express" and will be in the theaters this October.
It has been shown in special previews in the Elmira and Syracuse areas this past week.
