Fall Covered Bridge and Chocolate Runs (2007)

EDIT: THIS RUN TOOK PLACE IN 2007

Well, I never expected these 2 events to become so popular! Since there's a lot of out-of-area interest in both, I felt it would be best to combine them into 1 weekend. I will look for a hotel (Doug/RaticalSSR will help) and will post that information here soon. Don't be shocked if it costs over $100/night - it seems that Lancaster's a popular place.

Update- Hotel information: Thanks to Doug (RaticalSSR) for securing this. Rate will be $89.10/night (plus applicable taxes).

Doneckers, Guesthouse & Inn
318 N State St
Ephrata, Pa 17522
717-738-9502
rooms held under SSRfanatic name
The Inns at Doneckers

So, here's the plan of events.

Friday October 5
Nothing official - I figure people will be coming into town and we can do a meet & greet dinner.

Saturday October 6
3rd Annual Chocolate and Candy Run (wow - 3rd year already!)
Last year's stops will be our starting point this year. I may be making some changes, but everyone seemed to enjoy these:

Driving Directions from Google Maps
  1. Stauffer's Cookie Factory Outlet - York Pa (meeting place for others coming in)
  2. Wolfgang Candies - York Pa
  3. Wilbur Chocolate Factory - Lititz Pa
  4. Sturgis Pretzel House - Lititz Pa
  5. Wertz Candies - Lebanon Pa
  6. Hershey Chocolate World - Hershey Pa

Dinner following tour at Doug & Margo's place.

Sunday October 7
Fall Covered Bridge Tour
We'll be in the southern part of the county, visiting 12 bridges in all (one is closed to vehicle traffic).

Driving Directions from Google Maps There are actually 2 bridges on our tour not on the map. It stopped letting me make additions, so I think I found the limit!

This is the driving order
  • Pool Forge Covered Bridge - good photo stop
  • Leaman's Place Covered Bridge
  • Mercer's Mill Covered Bridge
  • Jackson's Sawmill Covered Bridge
  • Pine Grove Covered Bridge
  • White Rock Forge Covered Bridge - good photo stop
  • Colemanville Covered Bridge (my avatar and possible photo stop)
  • Baumgardner's Covered Bridge
  • Lime Valley Covered Bridge
  • Neff's Mill Covered Bridge
  • Kurtz's Mill Covered Bridge - good photo stop
  • Herr's Mill Covered Bridge (closed to traffic)
  • Willow Hill Covered Bridge (tourist bridge adjacent to "The Amish Farm and House"

Pool Forge is kinda "way out" from the rest of the bridges, but the folks there liked us so much, I thought it would be cool to have our tour start there this time.

As usual, please post up whether you're coming and if you will want a hotel room.

Updates will be posted as they come in.

As of now. I will do one or both if possible. If it's one it'll be the Bridge. I missed the Chocolate Run last year. Made the past Covered Bridge Tour. A very enjoyable...well organized day. If anyone is thinking about attending..DO IT.
No HOTEL for me. I'm fairly local. Thanks Kevin. You did a great job last time. I'm putting on my driving face for this. Maybe MidnightRider & Crosscheckfreak will produce

Expect protests

All I can say is that I will be celebrating my original birthday and my first one free of cancer in Hawaii on the 4th through the 10th, the actual day being the 7th. When the Red Hats hear about this, expect picketing and tear gas. Oh wait, Dances With Mice will be there so the ladies will be happy....NEVERMIND!
I will be back for the "Second Annual Twig Tour" later in the Fall.
Aloha,
Jamie

Thumbs up Chocolate Run Fall Bridge Tour

ssr71,
John and I will be there! You did a fantastic job with the Spring Covered Bridge Tour. Thanks again for organizing these tours. Fall's Bridge Tour will be in our current neck-of-the-woods.

There's an Ultra Violet SSR in the Quarryville area I've got to locate. They pulled up beside Poppa and us on our way to the Ambler Car Show the day after the Spring Covered Bridge Tour. They were driving their pickup and wanted to get an SSR club going in our area. Of course we told them a nationwide club exists in the SSRFanatic site but haven't seen them here as yet.

Sir SideKick...I know we will need eye protection for the Red Hats....Will we need hearing protectors for your new exhaust system?

I'm in for both runs. Spending the night in between will depend on if Nancy can get off on Saturday. I know she really wants to do the Chocolate run...so we'll see. I'll let you know if we'll be needing a room as soon as I can.

Sundays Run is saving me $$$. I was thinking about having more of Steve Kafka's artwork put on my R. He's only available Oct 7. Can't do it now. Bridge Run is the priority. Is the lunch restuarant open on Sun? Should we order now so that it'll be ready? Or do we pack lunch.

Unhappy

Looks like a conflict of dates this October also.

My wife and I will be shuffling my Son down to Orlando for his first year of College there (Oct. 1 thru 7th). Looks like the Annual Twig Run will work out later on.

...Hope to see you guys later on this year!

Kona

Jamie;

If you are headed to Kona on the Big Island; not to be left out
of the Chocolate fun, head over to Hilo on Saturday. Check out
Big Island Candies 585 Hinano St.

They have endless free samples of all their chocolate goodies and
great Kona coffee to wash it down.

You might want to try the Chocolate covered Squid.
