Thumbs up Finger Lakes Run 2010

** The date for the 4th annual Finger Lakes Run is Saturday September 18, 2010.
I made a reservation at Watkins Glen International for that date for the SSR Fanatics at High Noon
For a fee of $20 (US) a vehicle, we will have our group take 3 paced laps around the track with time for pictures.

** Other stops on this years run include:

. The Glenn Curtiss museum........Glenn H. Curtiss Aviation Museum - Aviation History / Naval Aviation / Early Aviation

. The Windmill.....The Windmill Farm & Craft Market

. Dinner at Tanino..same place as last year.

A block of rooms is on hold at the Big Flats Country Inn & Suites
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are 10 Deluxe Standard rooms with two queen beds at a special rate of $109.99
There are 3 Suites with a king bed at a special rate of $129.99
Rates are good for September 16, 17, 18, and 19.

Call 800-596-2375 or the hotel directly at 607-739-9205; ask for the special group rate,
booked under the "SSR Fanatics".

Country Inn & Suites By Carlson... Big Flats
105 E. Mall Road
Horseheads, NY 14845
Exit 51, I-86
******************************************************************************************************************
FINGER LAKES RUN details

Start point is at the McDonalds just North of Exit 51 off of I-86 (SR 17) in Horseheads, NY.
We will meet in the vacant lot just to the right of the McDonalds between 8:30-9:30am.
...This is for those who might need a little caffene or food to get the fire lit.
..........Or to unload an earlier blast of caffene.

Start time is 9:30 am.

Attached is a Map of the Start point and some local hotel locations. (SEE Post #40)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* For those coming thru PA, I suggest that you fill up with Gas before you enter
NY as prices can be 10 to 25 cents more North of the border.
* Bring along your camera as you will find a few things to capture on a disc.
* Bring along a two way radio if you have one. Helps with keeping everyone together.
Probably run channel 10-0.

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Highlights include the following:

** First stops will be in Elmira where you will get to see some historic sites.
...............Could be a great picture spot depending on activities.
** Next we are off to Harris Hill; home of the National Soaring Museum
...............A quick stop for some pictures.
** Off to WGI- Watkins Glen International Road Course (TheGlen.com)
..................Where $20 (US) a vehicle gets you 3 paced laps around the track with time for pictures after.
** We run along the Lake to The Windmill (TheWindmill.com)
...........We will have lunch with time to check out the shops.
** Back on the road to Hammondsport and the Glenn Curtiss Museum (Glenn H. Curtiss Aviation Museum - Aviation History / Naval Aviation / Early Aviation).
..........For the group rate of $5 each we get to see some of aviations great inventions and much more.
** Run back to Horseheads.

** Dinner Reservations at Tanino at 6:00

Welcome aboard everyone.
Still working on some details but things are looking good.
I hope the weather is just like last year......70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.

Welcome back to both of you...

A friend and former boss of mine is in to drag racing and had a performance parts business.
His business cards had the following slogan:

SPEED costs Money $$$$...How FAST do you want to go????

When I made the reservation for WGI, I mentioned that we almost ran the Pace car off the track,
and would it be possible to have the pace truck like several years ago?
Joe said that he would try but could not guarantee anything,. I will be in contact with him as we get closer to the date.

How fast do you want to go????? $$$$$$$

I don't think anyone would be happy right now if I had passed that slowpoke.
We probably would not be allowed on the track again.

Remember that pace cars have to be able to set the pace at a constant 75 MPH (even through the corners) and accelerate to pit road on starts and restarts.
Mine has done this.
The question is can you keep up?

Don't dare get to close to that Northeast Chapter, they held me hostage the last time I was there. Wanted my "Dicktator Tennis Balls".

Count us (Sue & Mark) in…. Can’t wait…. We will finally get to meet everyone.

Made reservation today, did not ask about smoking / non-smoking room and my wife has asthma, she will kill me.

It’s a busy month for us, NASCAR race in Richmond 9/11/10 and Dover 9/26/10. I was not sure we could do this trip, but you only go around once. :

Charlie,

I can alway bring the Shelby down to set the PACE!!. I'll let Suzy and Shelby drive the "R" and I'll take Taylor in the Shelby. Only problem is I don't think I could get Suzy out of the "R" after that.

Welcome aboard....more new SSR Fanatics to get to know.

If you have not made a reservation, I suggest that you do so ASAP.
I have talked with the hotel and rooms are getting scarce.
There is a 2 Bedroom suite available for $159.00.
I am waiting to hear back from the manager on options.

Seems that there are 2 weddings and several bus tours that weekend.
This is harvest time at the Wineries and bus tours are a big thing.
