My SSR: Red 2003 with running boards and a red headed passenger
Historic Berkshire weekend 08
Hello Fellow Fanatics,
I need an idea of how many would be interested in this event ……
I would like to set up a long weekend here in Berkshire county, Western Mass.
All fanatics are invited.
I have connections with the Eastover Resort,..( www.eastover.com ) we can get a special rate that would include meals and your room. I suggest checking out the web site,.. very interesting estate.
We would start on a Thursday with a cruise thru the south Berkshires, visit the Norman Rockwell Museum, travel up RT8 passing towns forgotten by time. Circling back to the resort for dinner and a relaxing night in the mansion.
Friday we pack in a great breakfast and track up to north county and southern Vermont for a run thru the farms and Green mountains. Stopping at some road stands on the way. We will climb the newly paved road leading to the summit of Mt Greylock for a photo opp. This road is a gradual grade, great views!
Saturday, another filling breakfast then the grounds of Eastover will come alive with re-enactments of the civil war,.. I will arrange for a regiment from the north east with a possible 800-1000 actors.
(Im setting this up, I thought I would give you all the first heads up)
I will have maps of local sites for self directed events.
We return to the mansion for another dinner.
Sunday, we enjoy our last breakfast. Say our G’bye’s and head off home.
Date will be sometime next summer,.. price will be reasonable .. depending on the turnout… the more that come,.. the better the rate.
The re-enactment will be open to the public on Saturday, Our SSRs will have preferential parking away from the public.
Count me in. I also would need to check the date. Sounds great. We just took a trip to Gettysburg, and loved it. Not to mention, the weather was great, so the top went down and the music went up. Let me know when you have the details. Claudia
Bill....Is this the same thing you were talking about for July 4? We have Maggie Valley the first of May and I will be busy the last week of May, I think Hot Rod Girl has her Michigan thing in Aug. which I would like to go to next year. So if you could work around them dates, count me in....Not asking for much am I?

This is great !! This much interest in 24 hours?!?!
Since I am setting it up around Fanatic schedule, its pretty much open menu. I will shoot for a dead spot in the summer.. probebly late June or late July.
I will contact the Lieutenant of the local regiment and Eastover resort to find out our options, then pass them along to you all.
Mt greylock is closed this year for complete repaving of the road, I will see when they plan to open it.. That will be a CQQL ride.
Once reservations open (Probebly mid Jan), it will fill fast, so stay tunned as details come in.
Theres no limit to the size, if it turns into a NorthEast Rally, so be it. I have pleanty of experience setting up Rallies. Im the Rally Coordinator for MA/RI H.O.G., Berkshire Rally, and Pittsfield Rally.
If it does grow to a huge event, I will need some volenteers to be on the committee.

Update on the Civil war re-enactment.
When I was told there can be as many as 800-1000 actors, they didnt tell me it took years to build up to that size. The numbers will be substantially lower for this year.
However, they will have a complete camp of actors in an authentic setting. The camp will be open for hands on demonstrations. There will be war re-enactments, canon demonstrations, horse back riding, and more.
Each actor represents actual soldier from the war they will give you the history of their character.
So basically,.. less people, but more detailed and real interesting to the civil war buff.
And,… less chance we have to pull a ½” slug from the side of our SSRs…lol
(just kidding, our trucks will be parked in a secluded, guarded area, away from the general parking area)
The resort is based around a mid 1800s mansion. The mansion has some rooms that will be available. There are detached buildings that hold the majority of the guests. Each building has a different décor. They are designed from all parts of our country from circa 1860s. There are separate cabins if you like. All rooms (inside the mansion and out) are set up for a perfect vacation weekend.. No TV, No Phone, but very clean and lots of charm. Kind of like a good resort would be back in the 1940s.
You can roam the mansions first floor and basement (upper floors are the guest floors).
There is a wood paneled library with 20 foot high ceilings and a fire place(also has a TV if you feel you need to watch one). The basement has all kinds of indoor games like an indoor pool, pool table, ping pong rooms, darts, bars, karaoke, ect. The largest Private owned civil war collection is there for your entertainment as well.

Sorry Latoy, The re enactment wont have 800-1000 actors.
When I spoke to a representative before, they said there could be "as many as 800-100 actors". But they meant at some of the bigger meets that take years to plan.
This will be small for the first year.. more like a re-enactment settlement.
It will still be lots of fun.
This thread was to see the intrest level for this event before I went thru all the work it will take to organize. I will iron out the details and get back to everyone.
I am meeting with 2 officers of the local regiment in 2 weeks. They will give me open dates. Eastover will give me open dates for their resort, then I will find out what date Mt greylock plans to open the brand new road.
